Crashing
I've had a lot of trouble with this game crashing. It'll crash during cutscenes, when I'm walking around the hallways, or basically doing anything. Full screen or windowed - it doesn't matter.

I have updated my graphics card with the latest driver and have tried running the game in admin mode to see if that could help, but it's still really unstable.

Anyone else having these issues?

A report must be sent to The Council Quality Assurance team for investigation.

A. Provide a computer diagnostic (file 'DxDiag.txt'):

1. Press the keys Windows and R from the keyboard to open the 'Run dialog box' and type: DXDIAG
2. Click the button 'OK'.
3. If your computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows, click the button 'Run 64-bit DxDiag'.
4. If your computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows, that button will not be visible.
5. Click the button 'Save All Information...'.
6. Save the file 'DxDiag.txt' and close the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

B. Provide the game log (file 'The Council.log'):

1. Open 'Windows Explorer' or 'File Explorer' from the taskbar.
2. Open 'Documents' then the folder 'My Games' and 'The Council'.

C. Provide the savegame (file 'SaveSlot1', 'SaveSlot2' or 'SaveSlot3'):

1. Open 'Windows Explorer' or 'File Explorer' from the taskbar.
2. Open 'Documents' then the folder 'My Games' and 'The Council'.
3. Open your SteamID folder.

D. Send in attachment the computer diagnostic, the game log and the savegame with a description of the problem to: support@focus-home.com

Thank you.

Files sent. Hopefully this can get sorted before the next episode. I really do love the game aside from the crashes! :)

I updated the driver. It still crashes, but less often. I encountered four crashes during a playthrough, some of them so severe that they actually froze my entire computer and required a hard reset.

In your Power Options, is your power plan set to Balanced or to High performance? (Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings).

Otherwise, please turn off the Steam Overlay for the game (right click The Council > Properties > Uncheck 'Enable the Steam Overlay...').

You can also test by disabling the Game bar:

1. Click the Windows Start button and click 'Settings'.
2. Click 'Gaming'.
3. Turn off 'Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar'.
4. Uncheck 'Show Game bar when I play full screen games Microsoft has verified'.
5. Close 'Settings'.
6. Test.

Or the Fullscreen optimizations:

1. Run Steam and click LIBRARY.
2. Right click on ' jeu ' and click 'Properties'.
3. Click the tab 'LOCAL FILES' then the button 'BROWSE LOCAL FILES'.
4. Right click on the application 'The Council.exe' and click 'Properties'.
5. Click the tab 'Compatibility' and check 'Disable fullscreen optimizations'.
6. Click the button 'OK'.
7. Test.
