How old is your computer, you may not have graphics capabable of running the extended version of the game. It requires at least direct X 10.
One way to see what direct X version you have is to run Dx diagnostics. To do that click the start icon in the lower right of your monitor/screen and in the search area type dxdiag.exe and then click on the item that shows up for that search.
After it loads up, look on the main system tab and at the bottom of the info there it will list a direct X version.
List what it says there and we can go from there.

Yeah, remembering that I DO in fact, have a brain, it seems all I need is to install DirectX 10
In case it helps, I have NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE for graphics

So you got it to work?
I'm thinking no as the 6150 SE only supports direct X 9.0c and the newer extended version of the game needs at least Direct X 10 for some reason. That reason I suspect is Microsoft does not want to support anything DX 9 as they stopped supporting it and XP.

Sadly the only way to fix this is get a newer graphics card or in your case since the graphics is a integrated graphics and if in a OEM desktop computer the power supply is probably on the low end and can't handle much of a decicated graphics card.

My best suggestion is to try and get a refund on the game as I see it's $20 if not on sale, not sure if you bought it during the recent sale. Steam is usually pretty stingy as far a refunds but worth a try.
The other thing you can do is keep it in your steam library and look to get a new computer as yours judging by the 6150 SE seems to be about 8 or 9 years old.
Technology moves fast, for example Windows 10 due out next year is going to have DirectX 12. Most newer games will probably still support back to DX 10 and even DX 9 for a while yet though.

For further reference, this site below is a good place to go and get a general idea if your computer has the neccessary specs to run just about any game you are thinking of buying.

Yeah, new computer is the way for me.

That'd be the way I'd go myself.
If you need any advice on a good one or even better yet advice or help putting a parts list together to build your own let me know.
Building your own system is easier then it may seem and also more importantly you'll probably save at least a couple hundred bucks and have a far more powerful system dollar for dollar over a prebuilt system.

You sure it has DX 11, did you run dxdiag.exe and what did it say on there? My first post tells how to do that.
If you do have DX 10 or 11 then you can try and run the directX setup again, it is in the games folder and further more usually in a folder such as redistributables or redist. Not sure on the exact path but sure I could find it for you if needed.

I am having the same problem but yes I did check my version of directx that I am running and it says I am running directx11 but the game still won't load at all when I click play it says can't initialize directx10 why is it trying to open something older when I have the newer version? Please help

The game uses DX 10 only that is why it is trying to use that.

As for your problem if your sure you have DX10 or 11 try running the Directx.exe setup for the game all by itself and see if that helps.
Fastest way to find and run that will most likely be by right clicking on the game in your steam library, choose properties and then go to the local files tab, and on that tab think it may be view game folder or game files. It's the first option.
When it opens the game folder look for a folder named redist, commonRedist, DirectX or a combination or those words and in that folder look for a file named Directx setup, double click on that and let it run and update. Then try the game again.

Already tried that even tried unintalling everything and redoing those steps with the directx setup and it now won't even get as far as it was before, at least it was getting to the main menu and letting me select play RON but now it just says prepareing and doesn't open anything not even the main menu

i even tried to reinstall those other files that you said were in the vcredist folder and nothing this is bunk cause my friend gifted me this game so we could play together and i can't even run the thing even though i have a better version than what it wants

Try this, right click on the game in your steam library, properties, local files and then choose the option to verify the games integrity.

Also you ran the directx setup that was in the games folder correct? and not the general one in the windows folder? Sometimes the devs alter the direct x files and you need to run the one that came with the game. It usually does that upon game install but sometimes it doesn't or ir run incorrectly.
Buzapaluza Mar 3, 2015 @ 8:47pm
yeah ran the one that was in the game folder under steam apps/common/commonredist
Buzapaluza Mar 3, 2015 @ 8:52pm
everything just validated fine
