General troubleshooting steps

Greetings. Here is the list of trouble shooting steps.

Redistributables
If redistributables failed to automatically install, the symptom is that when you launch the game through the Steam Client, the game launch never happens with no errors.
What are Redistributables and why do we need them? These are central libraries provided by the OS that provide basic features such as memory/file management, containers, and so forth. Almost every app depends on a certain feature set and so they are installed centrally to save memory -- otherwise every app would install duplicates of these redistributables. If they don’t install, it’s usually because Windows Updates are too far behind.

Diagnosing Redistributles

To test, try bypassing the launcher and run the game directly to see possible dll errors (msvcr110.dll) that indicate this is your problem.
Right click on Rise of Nations in your Steam Client App and go to properties
Select “Local Files” tab, then click “Browse Local Files”. This will open a file explorer window to where your game is installed.
Then double click on “riseofnations.exe” to directly launch it. Alternatively you can rename it to “patriots.exe” which is the launcher app, so launching it through Steam will launch the game instead of the launcher.
If you see missing dll error for msvcr110.dll (or similar), then this is your problem.
In the same directory as the game executable, is _CommonRedist. Try installing both the 2012 and 2015 versions and see if they complete successfully. If they don’t, try applying all the Windows updates you can, and try again.

Skedoorr. I have first Issue about missing msvcr110.dll file. I installed what u wrote in post. But its same. What windows updates do i need. Could u just make that file to download in patch. Cant run game on 1.20. Old version working perfectly. Any help would be nice....

Well if fixed that file that was missing from my windows 7. I google name of the file wich opens me some cites to fix it. There was a link to microsoft site. Wich it containts that missing file to download. i did it and i can run game and play. Just game has delay actions on lobby and it seems like older game then 2003 lol. U fixing it guys?

I am having the same problem attempting to reload a previous Campaign. If I start a new one, it works fine. Exit the game and attempt to come back in and it never loads.

Então eu tive o mesmo problema que o seu e consegui resolver, como alguns aqui informaram (alterar algumas configurações); desta forma informarei abaixo como foi solucionado (no meu caso, espero que o ajude também e as outras que tiverem o mesmo problema):

Primeiro terás que entrar no diretório que foi instalado o seu jogo ( no meu caso foi em outra partição diferente do C:) seguindo o caminho a seguir:
Steam/steamapps/common/Rise of Nations

Quando entrar procurar os arquivos : patriots.exe e riseofnations.exe

Selecionar cada um por vez e clicar com o botão direito do mouse, abrir a aba Compatibilidade, em seguida marcar o Modo de compatibilidade para Windows XP (Service Pack 3) e no Nível de Privilégio marcar Executar este programa como administrador.

Com tudo isso feito consegui abrir os saves.

Con todo eso logré abrir los saves.

no need for workshop item, you can rename the xml.4 files to .xml and you have chinese without mod.

I get a MSVCP140.dll is missing error whenever I try to run the game from the game files, and Im on windows 8. is there any way I can fix this without windows updates? If I run it through Steam it runs for a bit, then starts synching, and just dissapears.

@Skeedor - Is there any case where mods or even direct modifications to the rules.xml file would be ignored? I have RoN Ex. Ed. installed on the D drive in a SteamLibrary folder and none of the mods I try to load actually get applied to the game. Solo games. I've even modified the rules.xml file directly and those changes are not respected. Please advise.

After further investigation I've determined that the mods are loading but the game no longer seems to support population number changes. I've also noticed that some UI elements dealing with allowing the game to ignore pop caps have been disabled in the XML files. The rules.xml file no longer supports the pop cap numbers to be modified. I can change them but the game appears to now be hard-coded to only a max of 400. Is it true that this has been disabled now and cannot be modified using a Mod?

Can we get a spectator mode (god mode) so that spectators can see the whole map? I am planning to do commentary videos on live games and the spectator mode is the only way to make it work.

OK So, just adding a issue with the fix. For who have MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner, close them both, because that keep crashing the game when we launch it. Its hard to find if it's these programs cause some problem, no error code and in the windows log say its " 0xc0000005 " and dont say anything else that be helpfull to fix. Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native langage

I tried all the ways which are written here, but my RoN still does not working, when I open it from Steam it's just terminate itself, when I try to open from riseofnations.exe it gives an "MSVCP140.dll" and "VCRUNTIME140.dll" errors, what should I do? I'm in Win10, please show me the way. Thanks
