Hey, This is a game that I have played since I was little. I am just picking it up again. Is there still an active player base for online matches. Also how does the ranked system work. I have never played a ranked match. Thanks for any help.

There's modest activity, enough to find a game during peak times if you're not being picky. If you're being picky (e.g. balanced skill levels etc) then you might need to organize games with people specifically instead of just dropping into a random lobby. I've not personally used the built-in "find me a game" thing - most people just use the lobby browser.

Ranked is basically the same as non-ranked, except game settings are locked and at the end you gain/lose rating. Most games that are played are not ranked, partly due to the locked settings.
