Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

Patch 1.02 is LIVE! (June 17)
Patch 1.02 is live now! Steam should automatically install the new update, but if it doesn't, exiting the Rise of Nations client and restarting Steam should trigger the download.

Thank you all for continuing to report bugs and issues on the forums. Providing as much detail as possible, along with any relevant screenshots or replay files, is really helpful to the developers and the bug fixing process. Thank you for your patience as we continue to squash bugs and improve the overall player experience!

Patch Notes:

Friend Invites
  • We noticed that there were a number of issues concerning getting into a game via Friend Invites. This was not being handled well, and we have a new fix in place for this.

Conquer the World Nation Swapping
  • This issue has been corrected for all maps. The only known exception is that if your army is in a nation that was swapped, then that army will still be in the swapped location.
  • This is corrected by simply clicking on your army and trying to move them. This will snap the army back to the correct location.

VSync Fixes
  • VSync was causing the game to be less responsive than it should. We've introduced a fix to correct this.

Lobby Region Filter
  • Switched the default lobby filter to Worldwide.

DirectX 9 Check
  • We instituted a few checks at the start of the game that should eliminate the DX9 and Vista players from getting the intro videos to appear. This could also correct the issue that high-end PCs might have been having as well, but we're still unsure about this.

Launcher
  • Fixed various launcher issues.

Please could you fix the multi monitor issue? I can't alt tab because when I tab back in, the game opens back up on my second screen! Also, the mouse stays in the primary one.

Still can't see any games in the lobby. And yes, I've tried changing the location and turning off my firewall..... Any ideas Skybox?

My game still crashes after the intro video (the video, btw, doesn't play now -- just music on an alternating green and black screen, blank). Error message after ESC from the video: BHG RTS run time error / Could not create textures.

My system (an oldie but goodie -- still adequate, I think):
CPU: Intel duo core 4 GB RAM
OS: Vista Home Premium, Svc Pack 2
Video card: ATI Radeon HD 3650

As well as making it so that the fullscreen option stays off? Mine returns every time I start it.

Alright, so there are a bunch of people getting really worried and angry about scenarios and scripts. Nearly half of the people for the past 3 years that played Rise of Nations on the original version played it mainly for scenarios. It is extremely important that this gametype is fixed in a given time frame. Not only because it's an important part of the RoN experience, but because we bought this game with the expectation it would have the Rise of Nations and Rise of Nations Thrones and Patriots content fully included.

It was advertised as the same game as the original, with extra features. The complete lack of a multiplayer scenario function takes out a huge portion of the content of the original game and ruins the experience as a whole. We scenario players demand that this be included, as this is what we paid for.

It appears there was little effort by Skybox to allow scenarios to function in multiplayer as they did in the original game. It appears that the company didn't even bother to figure out how downloading scenarios and scripts worked in the original lobby, and didn't even try to implement
the same download function into the "extended" edition. If there wasn't plans of adding scenarios into the game, it should have been stated, so hardcore scenario players wouldn't waste their money on a downgraded game.

I've been waiting many days, checking the discussions, and hoping for more answers related to making scenarios work. I've ended up waiting by playing ranked games, and I'm currently ranked 4th in Survival of the Fittest globally. Even though I've spent hours of time playing and enjoying the game as it is right now, it still feels very incomplete. At heart, I am a scenario player and I would give up STD games in a heartbeat for scenarios.

I, along with the entire scenario community, demand answers. This is getting outrageous.

I also let them know that the "no_nuke" script crashes any mutiplayer game that tries to use it.

I can confirm that the developers are working to ensure that scenarios work in multiplayer, and once a verified fix is in place, we'll get that out to everyone.

I've also passed on the "no_nuke" script issue.

Thanks for the patch!

Even after the update, CTW still have problems, like a defeated nation who remains alive and issues like the game don't recognizing the player's victory, like this:
