Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

Fix sound quality. plz
I've loved RON but there is one thing I can't accept. That is, ultra-low sound quality.

When I gather infantries and tanks and etc, and when they fight with enemy's army, Their sound effects(gunfire, cannon fire sounds...and so on)are mixed so I can't hear them clearly.

For example, when infantries fire their guns, I can't hear tank's cannon fire sounds or the reverse is valid.

So please improve sound quality. I think original ROM may using 32 or 64kbps quality.

I have the same experience. The sound quality of the version feels downgraded. Have you compared it with the original RON?

Hey dude, it's been a long time but I finally found the solution.

I quoted below form the offical forum.

And ignore my request for a friendship, My original intention is sending this soultion to you by using a message but I realize that there is no way sending a message to someone.

THE FIX:

-First you will need to navigate to "C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations" (not sure if it matters but im using Win7)

-Look for "rise.ini" and open it with notepad

- You will see 4 lines relating to sound..it should look something like this

Number FX SoundPaths=0
Number VoiceOver SoundPaths=2
Number SoundTrack SoundPaths=3
IgnoreSoundWarning=0

- All you have to do is change the values to something higher. Here are my settings that seem to be a happy medium

Number FX SoundPaths=50
Number VoiceOver SoundPaths=40
Number SoundTrack SoundPaths=60
IgnoreSoundWarning=1 (not sure if this is neccesary but i enabled it anyway)

NOTE: I have noticed that if you set the FX SoundPath to high, the music will cut in and out. If music is not an issue than you can set Number FX SoundPaths too 100 or something. But I like having the music play so I found those settings to be the most optimal.

I have not tested multiplayer with this yet but I plan on doing that later.

Cheers

I know this post is coming years after the fact, but to the poster above, thank you for posting this solution. I, too, was annoyed how the game only seemed to play one or two sound effects at a time, even if there were dozens of sound-effect generating "events" happening on screen at the same time.

Changing the settings listed above allows the game more simultaneous "voices" so that multiple sound effects can play per unit time, instead of just a few.

Thanks again!
