Will my old CD-key work?
I had this game since i was like 11. Anyway i've got the CD-key inside the case, which apparently survived all those years(sadly cannot say the same for the disk itself), can i redeem it on steam?

I just tried it, it didn't work, maybe it'll work when it's released?

Very unlikely, publishing agreements from that long ago would not make redemption on Steam today viable (for example due to spoofable keys).

Still worth it, given the improvements.

I think improved visuals in a strategy game is hardly an improvement but thats just me, the only thing i expect better would be multiplayer. Thanks anyway. ;(

What if i send steam support a picture of the case and CD-key and the current date to prove its legit? Any idea?

Not sure tho I'd like to be able to even just email the publishers and see if I can get a steam key in return.

Steam is a shop, not a game hosting site. They have no reason to honour you previous purchase with another shop.

Didn't know that, so you can't redeem CD-keys that come with the copy you bought from your local game store?

Some games you can, such as the Total War stuff nowadays, but since Rise of Nations never had a key server or the like in the first place, it makes no odds that you can't redeem the game on Steam. Even if there was a digital version of RoN, it is best to remember that this is really a BUNDLE that contains Rise of Nations, its expansion pack and is an adaptation for this Steam release. I empathize with you nonetheless! :-)

Ok, well first off this is the Extended Edition, has base game and Xpack together, your single CD key does not. This is also a 'new' game with updates and tweaks. Such as using Steamworks now, these changes cost money. Your owed nothing with a product you bought when you were 11. It is 15 bucks, well worth it. If you find you dont think the updates are worth it, dont get it. I for one cant wait to play this with my friends again.

This, if you do not want to pay for the remastered version, I would just stick with your old CDs. I know its weird paying for the game twice, but at least be thankful that they are putting time into restoring it and not just throwing a good classic in the trash. At least thats my opinion, I thought Rise of Nations was pretty good. That was a years ago though...
