Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

No more LAN???
The recent 'patch' removed LAN from the multiplayer menu. Have the devs addressed this? Are there any plans to roll this back?

The only reason I play this is because of LAN. Stripping features out of a 14 year old game shows real contempt for the fans. I would advise against buying this game until the devs restore LAN and fix the other game-breaking issues introduced by their 'patch'

You can revert/rollback/call it whatever you like your game back to the version 1.10 by rightclicking its entry in your library -> properties -> Betas -> v1.10 Cretits should go to my buddy, who found the entry here, the Steam name is "Meensai" :)

Thanks, dude. I really appreciate that. Still think it's a really bizarre thing for them to do to the fans, but it least this fix works for now.

No Problem :)

Ugh. Don't remove LAN. Don't remove Direct IP connections. What is with this trend the last few years?

It's a cash grab. They know that some people play LAN by sharing games and having the owner go into offline mode, in much the same way that in the days of games on discs you could play LAN between two computers with the game installed off of one disc. The intention is that those people will buy another copy of the game just to play at home with friends or family over LAN.

Interesting thread. It would be nice to see some feedback from an official source as to why it was removed, or if it will be permanent.

LAN was the best part of this game don't get rid of it permanently

Hope not.

Yea, I would downvote this game on the store until they bring back LAN.

Since the devs haven't given an answer, I can only speculate. On the AoE side, their recent policies seem to be "auto-detect LAN": you always need to use your internet connections to set up the game. Once the game starts, the game actually runs only in the LAN.

That's how LAN play is implemented in AoE2HD, and probably how it is in AoE DE.
