HD Music Mod
It's really a shame about what happened to the soundtrack through the update of this game. So I found the HQ version online and swapped it out for everyone.

Place the sounds folder inside your RON directory, located in common under your steamapps folder.

Replace all files inside and enjoy CD quality tracks, at the expense of a 1 GB music folder.

For whatever reason the Thrones and Patriots tracks are of CD quality, yet every other track has been compressed down to hell.

And where did you find these tracks exactly?

Well you see, in the ancient times of 2003, humans used to use data storage units called discs (which were very space inefficient) to store entertainment, such as music and games. Some of these discs were used to store nothing but soundtracks and albums, and were often shipped with copies of games, or purchasable separate.

Yeah they came from a DVD.

Uh, I don't understand what are you talking about. I have both installed 2004 retail version from torr~COUGH legal disk and modern Steam version of RoN. I compared size of tracks between these versions - 2004 version tracks have only 1\4 size compared to Steam version tracks. (except those one tracks from Thrones and Patriots folder). So, basically, Steam version tracks are HD or whatever you wanted to say.

Separate CD's, as in, discs that are purely dedicated to storing the uncompressed studio quality music files. Also BS they're HD, the compression on them is god awful, download the files I did and compare them the the steam download.

@ Haida

Do you know what the exact source is for the HQ download you linked to?

It looks like there are 3 sources for the RON soundtrack:
- Disc version
- Steam version
- Official DVD disc soundtrack (limited copies, rare)

I tried ripping the ost from the DVD but the files had some sort of "clipping" or clicking sound.
I will try again and if successful then I can do a Flac/Wav download which is the best quality.

You should be able to find other versions online at a 48000 KHz bitrate, one site I know called khinsider has the base RON soundtrack (including the campaign tracks) available for download, but does not include the T&P tracks. However the actual game files contain the full HD versions of those already, and somehow mixed in the low bitrate default files.

Otherwise I would just recommend installing the files I put up for download and then extracting your whole soundtrack folder located in the same directory as the install path if you want to use the soundtrack elsewhere.
