Game not starting.
First of all, the specs:
CPU - Intel i7-4770 @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs)
RAM - 12GB
GPU - GeForce GTX 650
Graphics driver version - 337.88
OS - Windows 8.1 64-Bit

The problem:
I click play in steam and the game doesn't start at all. No loading screen whatsoever and no error message. I disabled my firewall and AV to test and it still didn't work. I verified the game cache but no problems found with that either. Rebooted my PC as well but it's still a no go.

i am having a similar issue. my specs are about the same as yours except with an GTX870. i occasionally get a pop up from steam when i hit play that says "installing msiexec" then goes away and nothing happens. I bought this on the release day at 10 am. very frustrated that I cant play one of my favorite games

Actually I forgot to mention that I was getting the installing msiexec window pop up occasionally too. Thanks for the reminder :)

Cpu - AMD FX-8350
Mobo - MSI GD65V2
Ram - Gskill sniper 8gb @1833Mhz
GPU - MSI GTX 670
Drivers - 340.52
I get an error message kinda like yours, installing MSIEXEC for like 1/3rd of a second
Then my game loads for a quick second and I see a black screen of the opening animation of the game, along with about a second of music, then the game completely freezes.

same problem and no info from steam, no answer in the forums and no reply by email. its totally ignored... worst customer service ever

They're working on it, they released patches for the crash for older AMD and Intel CPU's
I'm not happy about this, that the game I really want to play isn't working, but I know they're working on it.

A possible fix:

Okay, I got the game running after this same problem, and here is what I did:

Open the Metro 2033 Redux game folder (from the Steam subfolders).
In there, open folder _CommonRedist (that is how it was named for me).
Now open folder vcredist and the folder inside that (for me it was named 2012).
You should see now two exe files.

I opened vcredist_x64.exe, and it prompted me for admin privileges, which I gave ok to.
The install was ok. After that tried to run the game again, and it worked perfecly.

Omfg, this actually worked. And the sick thing is that I tried installing both vcredist versions before, but not from the folder in the app (_CommonRedist/2012). If you excluded the vcredist fix because you tried it on your own, please try running the x64 exe from the in app folder.

This worked for me too. Both games are running now.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I hope the devs fix this soon.

Fuuuuuu.... Didn't work for me, although I found that if I actually go into the steam folder and find the original Metro EXE's then I can run it. I'd just prefer not to have to do that all the time.

A 2.7MB patch downloaded from steam, it still didn't work and I have exactly the same issue of it not starting at all.

Has anyone figured out a fix to this yet aside from running the redist?
elyktheras Sep 4, 2014 @ 3:49pm
I honestly have no idea whats wrong, becuase I've gotten all the way to Venice in the game, I've been able to get Last Light working, and I got into the game for 2033, but never actually Played 2033. But then alot of times it doesn't seem to actually work.

It's been 11 days since release and myself and others haven't played at all because the game won't start. What is being done by Deep Silver/4A to fix this? Even a simple acknowledgement that they know about it and trying to resolve the issue would be nice.
