I also have a Phenom II processor, and can't get past the first cutscene.
Ditto... exactly same here. A lot of people are having this problem. The computer is not the problem and neither is the OS. It's just a buggy game that needs to be fixed. One of my systems is dual boot Windows 7 and 8.1 and it has the same exact problem under both operating systems. It worked fine on both machines the day it was installed and stopped working the following day. It affects both 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux. My older versions of Metro 2033 and Last Light still work correctly.
Both machines have the same problem.
System #1
Alienware M18xR2
3920XM @ 4.3GHz
32GB DDR3-2133
GTX 780M SLI
GeForce 340.52 drivers
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015)
Windows 8.1.1 Pro x64 (Bitdefender Total Security 2015)
System #2
Alienware 18
4930MX @ 4.3GHz
16GB DDR3-1600
GTX 780M SLI
GeForce 340.52 drivers
Windows 8.1.1 Pro x64 (native W8 Defender security software)
This information is also posted in the technical issues thread for Metro 2033 Redux. Link
*** Well never mind it will not launch again.
Troubleshooting:
Updated to the latest AMD Catalyst drivers 14.4
Changed resolution settings manually in /metro redux/user.cfg,
Restarted a few times of course
Safe mode ...
Win Ult 64 bit
Phenom II 6x 3.2
XFX 7950 AMD catalys 14.4
8 GB DDR3 RAM
ASUS M5A97
Additional info: OS and Steam are on C:drive SSD, game data is on D: drive HDD
What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shambles this is.
I already gave my specs in that forum, I am not wasting my time again.
- Phenom II X4 955
- 8GB
- 660ti Main, 650ti Physx
- 340.52
PhysX does not run on GPU on Metro Redux. PhysX indicator shows CPU only. It does not matter if I force it to Auto select, GPU 1 -660ti, or GPU 2 -650ti.
Also using MSI Afterburner I can see that the CPU usage on GPU2 stays at 0% and the clock speed does not raise.
I have no PhysX issues with any other PhysX game. Tried Metro 2033 original and Metro Last Light original, Batman Arkham Origins/Arkham City.
Either driver issue with Metro Redux or game programming issue.
Last Light Redux was working fine last night, this morning when I try to load my save game, it crashes. 2033 Redux is working fine.
How I tried to troubleshoot:
Launched in safe mode, no effect. Turned down all visuals, no effect.
My PC specs:
-i5 4690k
-8GB DDR3-1600
-Radeon R9 280X
-Catalyst 14.7 beta
-Xbox 360 controller
This is very weird and I would really like to get back into the game asap.
application load error 3:0000065432
and the game wont work
An update was applied by Steam to both games today, but it did not change anything.

After seeing the update did not fix it, I validated the files. One had 2 files to reacquire, the other had 1 file to reacquired.

After reacquiring the files, no change. Still screwed up. So, we wait for a fix some more. Tick-tock, tick-tock.
Windows Event Viewer produces the same error for both games at launch...
Attempting to repair the version of PhysX that downloads with the game manually by double-clicking the executable fails for both games. Uninstalling PhysX, then using the version that ships with the game to reinstall PhysX works, but both games still hang immediate at launch, with or without launching in Safe Mode. After reinstalling PhysX using the included files the Windows Event Viewer no longer has the above error. There are no errors relating to either game in Event Viewer after reinstalling PhysX, but the behavior is identical.
Removing the current version of PhysX and installing legacy version 9.12.1031 (a trick that often fixed the older version of Metro 2033) also does not work. I just tried it.
Disabling my antivirus program does not fix the problem.
The patch released today fixed my problem! So worth the wait and the money! Thanks!
Here is the weird part.... After installing them to a third system, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux mysteriously started working on both of the systems that it refused to run on just a couple of hours earlier. I don't get that, but whatever the deal is, I am glad that both are working.
So, scratch that off my list. And, now I see there is a new problem. SLI doesn't work. SLI was working fine when I first installed both Redux titles before they stopped working and needed to be patched. Apparently the patch fixes one thing and breaks something else. Now there is basically ZERO GPU utilization on the secondary GPU. So now we wait for that to be fixed, too. What can't developers do things right the first time so stuff just works? How many of us could get away with half-a$$ed work product at our jobs?
I guess I will have to start tweaking things with NVIDIA Inspector until that gets fixed.

Issue: Objects pop-in and out untimely. Seems to be related to rendering two viewpoints as some objects will disappear when they reach the horizontal edges of the screen.
This issue was not present in the standard edition of Last Light.
Spec: Doubt it's related to specific hardware.
