There's your issue... for some reason...
I also have a Phenom II processor, and can't get past the first cutscene.

The Problem:
When I click on Play in my library Steam runs a first time setup which flashes for ~1 second reading "Installing: msi exec (step 1 of 1)" After which nothing happens, game won't launch.

If I go into the game folder to try to launch the game via the .exe I get:
"The program can't start because MSVCP110.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Reinstalled 3 times already. Verified cache. Downloaded gfx drivers, C++, DirectX, tried Safe Mode, tried different hard drive and still nothing. The originals run just fine so WTF!?

Ditto... exactly same here. A lot of people are having this problem. The computer is not the problem and neither is the OS. It's just a buggy game that needs to be fixed. One of my systems is dual boot Windows 7 and 8.1 and it has the same exact problem under both operating systems. It worked fine on both machines the day it was installed and stopped working the following day. It affects both 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux. My older versions of Metro 2033 and Last Light still work correctly.

Both machines have the same problem.

System #1
Alienware M18xR2
3920XM @ 4.3GHz
32GB DDR3-2133
GTX 780M SLI
GeForce 340.52 drivers
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015)
Windows 8.1.1 Pro x64 (Bitdefender Total Security 2015)

System #2
Alienware 18
4930MX @ 4.3GHz
16GB DDR3-1600
GTX 780M SLI
GeForce 340.52 drivers
Windows 8.1.1 Pro x64 (native W8 Defender security software)

This information is also posted in the technical issues thread for Metro 2033 Redux. Link

Well my problem was this, I would click play and music would start then just black screen, Well after hours of seeing about a fix I moved the BugTrap.dll out of the last light folder.

*** Well never mind it will not launch again.

Both Metro 2033 and Last Light Redux crash as soon as the intro video is done playing, whether skipped or not. The Benchmark loads for 3 seconds, hangs and crashes. No error messages.

Troubleshooting:

Updated to the latest AMD Catalyst drivers 14.4
Changed resolution settings manually in /metro redux/user.cfg,
Restarted a few times of course
Safe mode ...

Win Ult 64 bit
Phenom II 6x 3.2
XFX 7950 AMD catalys 14.4
8 GB DDR3 RAM
ASUS M5A97

Additional info: OS and Steam are on C:drive SSD, game data is on D: drive HDD

Well, it's the thought that counts. Appreciate the suggestion anyway.I tried it and it did not work for me with Metro 2033 Redux or Last Light Redux. I hope they jump on fixing this. I've tried almost every suggestion I can find posted and nothing works. I may try cleaning things out with DDU and dropping back to an old driver like 327.23 to see if the behavior changes. Seeing that it is happening with both the red and green cards, I am skeptical anything short of a patch from the developer is going to be calories burned in futility.

Crash to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ desktop, exactly the same as 2033 redux.
What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shambles this is.
I already gave my specs in that forum, I am not wasting my time again.

Your PC specs:
- Phenom II X4 955
- 8GB
- 660ti Main, 650ti Physx
- 340.52

PhysX does not run on GPU on Metro Redux. PhysX indicator shows CPU only. It does not matter if I force it to Auto select, GPU 1 -660ti, or GPU 2 -650ti.

Also using MSI Afterburner I can see that the CPU usage on GPU2 stays at 0% and the clock speed does not raise.

I have no PhysX issues with any other PhysX game. Tried Metro 2033 original and Metro Last Light original, Batman Arkham Origins/Arkham City.

Either driver issue with Metro Redux or game programming issue.

Issue:

Last Light Redux was working fine last night, this morning when I try to load my save game, it crashes. 2033 Redux is working fine.

How I tried to troubleshoot:
Launched in safe mode, no effect. Turned down all visuals, no effect.

My PC specs:
-i5 4690k
-8GB DDR3-1600
-Radeon R9 280X
-Catalyst 14.7 beta
-Xbox 360 controller

This is very weird and I would really like to get back into the game asap.

when i start the game it starts on steam and inmediately i get:
application load error 3:0000065432
and the game wont work

So, I went to try and see if Metro 2033 Redux or Metro Last Light Redux would work yet and both are still broken.

An update was applied by Steam to both games today, but it did not change anything.

After seeing the update did not fix it, I validated the files. One had 2 files to reacquire, the other had 1 file to reacquired.

http://i.imgur.com/abYFGHx.jpg | http://i.imgur.com/uSWxYzW.jpg

After reacquiring the files, no change. Still screwed up. So, we wait for a fix some more. Tick-tock, tick-tock.

Windows Event Viewer produces the same error for both games at launch...
Product: NVIDIA PhysX -- Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Metro 2033 Redux\_CommonRedist\PhysX\9.13.1220\PhysX_9.13.1220_SystemSoftware.msi Event ID: 11316
http://i.imgur.com/WD9UK9A.jpg

Attempting to repair the version of PhysX that downloads with the game manually by double-clicking the executable fails for both games. Uninstalling PhysX, then using the version that ships with the game to reinstall PhysX works, but both games still hang immediate at launch, with or without launching in Safe Mode. After reinstalling PhysX using the included files the Windows Event Viewer no longer has the above error. There are no errors relating to either game in Event Viewer after reinstalling PhysX, but the behavior is identical.

Removing the current version of PhysX and installing legacy version 9.12.1031 (a trick that often fixed the older version of Metro 2033) also does not work. I just tried it.

Disabling my antivirus program does not fix the problem.

Glad it worked for someone... the rest of us are still waiting. The patch did not fix anything for me. Exactly the same before and after.

**UPDATE**
OK, so this is just strange. As I posted earlier, the update did not fix anything on either one of my gaming systems. Out of curiosity, I installed Steam and downloaded both Metro Redux titles to another system, which is not one of my gaming rigs, and both titles ran fine. Really puzzled by that, but I have seen stranger things.

Here is the weird part.... After installing them to a third system, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux mysteriously started working on both of the systems that it refused to run on just a couple of hours earlier. I don't get that, but whatever the deal is, I am glad that both are working.

So, scratch that off my list. And, now I see there is a new problem. SLI doesn't work. SLI was working fine when I first installed both Redux titles before they stopped working and needed to be patched. Apparently the patch fixes one thing and breaks something else. Now there is basically ZERO GPU utilization on the secondary GPU. So now we wait for that to be fixed, too. What can't developers do things right the first time so stuff just works? How many of us could get away with half-a$$ed work product at our jobs?

I guess I will have to start tweaking things with NVIDIA Inspector until that gets fixed.

Nvidia 3D Vision related

Issue: Objects pop-in and out untimely. Seems to be related to rendering two viewpoints as some objects will disappear when they reach the horizontal edges of the screen.
This issue was not present in the standard edition of Last Light.

Spec: Doubt it's related to specific hardware.
Nvidia driver version: 340.52 (Nvidia 3D Vision Module: 7.17.13.4052)
MSI GTX580
AMD FX 8350 4Ghz x 8
2x4GB 1600Mhz RAM

Maybe this will help. Several of us have had this problem and posted on other threads. I have two solutions, one simple one not so simple. Either may work as long as the game is working.
1st and simplest. Open the Nvidia Control Panel>Madage 3Dsettings>click SLI rendering mode and change it fo force Alternate Frame Rendering 2 (AFR 1 doesn't work well at all).

2nd, and more complex: I used Device Manager and uninstalled my Video cards and made sure to check mark "Remove device drivers...". Reboot computer and install the newest (340.52) driver package -- do a custom install and make sure to do a clean install AND be sure to install the Geforce Experience stuff; once installed it SHOULD tell you that there is a newer GFEx available--do the update to 2.1.1.1 as the SLI profile is in that update. When it is all done reboot, BE SURE to go back into the NV Control panel and turn on SLI.
It should all work.
And I agree; why can't anyone, not just Deep SIlver, release a finished package. I do know that part of it is that they can't perfectly test and code for the millions of configurations out there, but sheeeesssshh, if it worked before how did they break it. Also a gripe: Nvidia must have sponsored some of this Redux (their add on opening) and the dirivers that suppposedly work with Redux (340.52) were released weeks ago, so they are partially to blame here, too.
Releasing a 'fix' in GFE, and not an updated driver - even a Beta - was IMHO not very good nor friendly. I don't think I am the only one who doesn't use GFE.
Thank you. My first tweak was going to be trying AFR1 and AFR2 to see if either setting fixed it. You saved me some wasted time and I appreciate it.

Yup, AFR2 fixed it right up. Thanks. Here are some screenies showing it working on both titles now.
