I think if you knock a spider on his back (during Regina) you shuld be able initiate a takedown animation. If it works on the spider, it should work on the humans (regardless of lethal/non lethal)
just like to say it worked for me ..i went back and just selected chapter before and loaded it after that i went back to the chaper i was on ...so far so good
Hi, I have the same problem. The takedown prompt does not show up, but when I press V, it does the takedown animation. Is this what you mean? Or is there a takedown prompt that's still spelled out? Don't want to play through that chapter again just to see that it doesn't work hehe
I don't get any options for non lethal and lethal takedowns so I can't do anything. I can press v like slashing the knife and thats all I can do melee wise. I really want to finish the game. It saddens me something like this hasn't fixed in a year or more.
Sorry, should have been a bit more clear. It does the takedown animation on the spiders. I know it's not just the usual animation when you press v because the character here kneels down and stabs the spider right in the gut. Is that the animation he means? The chapter before Bandits is really long and I don't wanna waste my time to see that it doesn't work anyway when you get to Bandits.
This is what I did:
1. On Steam, go to Steam > Settings > Cloud. Uncheck Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for applications which support it
2. Go to Documents > 4A Games > Metro Last Light > 11000010a9206f2
3. Delete 2034_auto_save, 2034_I07_tunnel.player and 2034_I07_tunnel_2.player
4. Start up the game. Go to chapter select (you won't be able to use the Continue option because you deleted the autosave file) and replay through Revolution and Regina. When you get up to Bandits, you should be able to do stealth kills and knockouts. If you can't, delete the saves again and try again.
The first time I tried to fix this glitch, I deleted my saves and started a new game on Normal. I got up to Bandits and was able to do stealth takedowns. I finished the level, quit to main menu, then started a new game on Ranger. I played back up to Bandits and this time the glitch did not happen.
I thought this was the fix, but after starting another new game on Ranger, the glitch happened again. I tried doing the same thing as before (playing on Normal then on Ranger) but the glitch happened again (it didn't happen on Normal but did happen on Ranger.)
So, then I knew my original "fix" wasn't a fix at all and I can only assume that it's random whether or not the glitch will happen. My theory is that the glitch is linked to either the auto_save file or the tunnel_2.player file.
The first time I tried this new fix, I only deleted the auto_save file and the tunnel_2.player file, which is the file for Bandits. I replayed through Regina and still encountered the glitch on Bandits, but when I also deleted the tunnel_1.player file and replayed through from Revolution, I didn't encounter the glitch.
I think it's possible that the glitch will happen at random when you reach Bandits, but deleting those saves and replaying one or two levels seems to be the best chance at not encountering the glitch. If it doesn't work the first time, it should work after a few tries. Obviously, this is much faster than starting a new game and hoping the glitch doesn't occur.
I'm not sure if the load from chapter at the start changed it or if it's just a random chance of bugging out each time you go through the levels again. It was painful but i'm now able to play the game with take downs. I hope this helps someone else as this was an infuriating bug.
I only ever played Metro on console so I unknowingly encountered this bug during my first play through on PC and didn't realize it was bugged until I was relatively far past the REVOLUTION level. This solution of yours does in fact work for me and presumably anyone else who tries it hopefully so thank you very much for sharing.
