The Moral Points
After playing through this game (During first release) and getting the bad, and now replaying it and just finished it today trying to get the Good Ending, does anyone really really really hate the moral point system?

I love the karma system. You are really supposed to play through blind and have your actions reflect the person you were in the game, and the game responds in kind. This isn't mass effect where you can just choose red or blue for bad or good, t doing what is canon to Artyom's nature is an easy rule of thumb for good ending, so it kind of rewards those who read the book in that respect. You know he listened to the stories of others, he explored often, he was generous and helpful, etc.

This is a quote from 4A about the karma system: "It is really important that the mechanics behind how the system works remain a mystery to avoid players trying to "game" or "cheat" the system. It's only when players are ignorant of the consequences of their actions can they truly make a free choice."

Search forums or check the Metro wiki moral page for some specific info.

I just found out that killing instead of knocking out enemies gave you bad karma, and i have been killing every single bandit, nazi and red since the beginning and i am already 80% of the way through the game ;-;

Killing hostile enemies doesn't give you negative points, though killing unarmed workers, surrendered/wounded enemies, or story bound enemies will give you negative moral points. What you think you know about the karma system will for the most part be wrong until you see what others have done to decipher it.

Never killed any unarmed and stealthed most of the game though except parts where I couldnt reload to the point when they spot me and kill me. Didn't kill any of the story bond enemies and such. Just frusrated abit.

You have to do more than just sparing Leznitsky and Pavel. It's not only about stealth either. You have to listen to the conversation of civilians in the stations and the enemy soldiers and you have to explore the levels for hidden stashes. There are other "story related" points, too.

Yeah, best to avoid killing enemies who never fight back or are important to the plot. It also pays to explore around and listen fully to conversations since those do give extra points.

Also, you can do some minor immoral things but you have to get the major moral choices done (spare Leznistsky and Pavel) and do more minor good deeds than bad. I.E. on my first playthrough, I killed regular soldiers all the time (well the ones who would fight back when alerted) and the only thing I did that was immoral really was pay the stripper for a lap dance and still got the good ending. lol
Adding my contribution here and some spoilers along so read carefully. Spoilers below:

You can clear your conscience and kill Lesnitsky if you wish, but you have to have enough moral points from other sources to compensate. I killed him in my last playthrough along with EVERY enemy I met and got the good ending. However, I've spared Pavel, rescued Mamma Bear, freed the Nazi prisoners, spared surrendering soldiers, found all 4 flashbacks in the ghost city and got some minor moral points scattered mainly thanks to exploration.
I've always had conscience trouble by sparing that SoB Lesnitsky. Now I can confirm killing him does NOT guarantee the bad ending.
Happy hunting ;)
