safe keys

Is there a way to see if you have any safe keys?
Is there a way to verify a safe key was just used to open something?

As is, if I get a safe key, I run around and check all the locked chests, etc. that I came across in the chapter (if I can). There's really no way of knowing if a key was used or if I just missed the locked item before, correct?

The wiki has the key and safe locations. The levels are so short you should remember if you have a key or opened a safe.
