Voice language: English vs Russian vs Ukranian

I am a huge fan of the Metro series. I love that a rag tag team from Ukraine can put a AAA title together and have it defy all expectations. Even better, the game sidesteps so many western gaming tropes which creates a truly unique experience. Here's my dilemima: I am doing a ranger playthrough of both M:2033 and M:LL and and really want to use the ORIGINAL VO. The studio is from Ukraine so is the Ukranian VO the original? Most people say to play in the Russian VO.....or did the studio know they needed to pander to the US audiences .....so is the English VO the original? All help is appreciated. Super pumped for Metro Exodus!

There is no mod for such a thing, the VO for LL/redux in russian is supposed to be pretty good and more similar to the original than the english version. For all versions I always hear, "if you can understand Russian, play it in Russian."

The original 2033's English and Russian version starred Oleg Mirochnikov as the voice actor for Artyom. I'm almost positive he did both as he can speak both languages: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1360310/

I don't believe there was ever a clear answer on this change. It could be anything from the VO not wanting the gig anymore, monetary offer conflicts, scheduling, etc. I don't mind the change too much. I do like the morose, dreary tone of Oleg, but Artyom is a young, inexperienced dweeb when Hunter convinces him to leave.

Who knows what would have become of LL with the original VO? It was in development hell for a bit with the team not having a full plot sorted when the early 2012 deadline was coming. I still think they did a fine job on LL, the extra year THQ gave them really helped. Redux was also pretty good, so good I rarely want to go back to the original... unless I want to be punished for my sins

Theeeen THQ got bought by the company that now owns the parent company of the current publisher for the Metro franchise. Talk about full circle

Thanks for the response Jig! You provide ALOT of awesome knowledge and its great to hear from a fellow Metro fan. I guess my original question is....what is the original definitve VO? For example......let's take the movie Alien. The original VO is English but there are spanish and german and french dubs. If I was german and didn't understand english i would rather watch Alien in English with German subtitles....sorry im rambling...so what is the original VO for Metro?

Technically UnTechnically this English is not a voice over it was made in English.
There is only a hand full of real good Russian Voice actors avaliable in the World.
One of the Main guys from all the games(S.T.A.L.K.E.R included) is from Ohio.

people that do the Russian and other languages are often just pulled off the street. this is why there is hardly no or low credit given to them.

English is good but I prefer Russian with English subtitles...so the game feels more russian...

Well, I recommend Russian, thouh i guess Ukranine is the original, but Russian matches better

4A is very small compared to other AAA studios. The fact that their games are of such high fidelity that they are is amazing.
