Also don't forget what you bind to "switch filter", there are no hints or pickup texts.
This is just DEVS being lazy, instead of coming up with some truly realistic features.
At lesat i need to know what goes in and out of my pocket right.
With literally no HUD, I can't ever check how much ammo I'm carrying in total. This would be fair if I could count it when picking some up, but there's a variable amount acquired every time you loot an enemy or stash.
I don't even know how many military-grade bullets I have until I reach a trader, and those are few and far between throughout the whole game. Not to mention having to HOPE that holding tab and swiping your mouse selects the correct grenade or knife.
There's way too much guess-work involved, and BREAKS my immersion more than anything else. I had hoped to have a rewarding playthrough in this brutal mode, but it promises to be brutal for the wrong reasons. Wouldn't recommend.
The fist tip I will give you, when you see a corpse, a box, a suitcase, a cabinet on the wall, etc. SPAM your interact key (E) as you move your mouse around; some things pick up easily, other things you have to be pointing right at them. Things like ammo and filters not on a corpse or cabinet "pulse"; their brightness changes. Helps to locate them.
The second thing is, to choose your secondary weapon, you have to know what slot they go in and what sound selecting them makes; I will leave it to you to experiment, but you have to hold Tab down while moving the mouse U/D/R/L to pick... again with no indication, it can be funny... you want to take out a bunch of bad guys clustered around a barrel fire and pop out and throw... a knife instead of a grenade. You get about 0.2 seconds to laugh before you die. :-)
I commend your choice! Be prepared to reload a lot, though.

@Blinky - but also for Spooky - you most certainly can check all that, as Grim said. Pull up your journal, then right-click so your journal occupies the screen and you can see the current objectives... an overlay will appear outlining all that. (except for what's in your current weapons - you have to visually inspect the weapon; if it's magazine-based ammo just stand still for a bit and Artyom will run his finger over the magazine and you can either count or just estimate.)
@Jascha dude don't forget they initially CHARGED for it, they even horned in on pre-orders claiming it wouldn't be available. Offensively lazy!
On another note, I was hoping that items wouldn't pulse like that in this game mode. You have to carefully look for and track so many other things, it would have made sense to disable that pulsing too.
