Always remember to pull the mask off when you are in areas when it's not needed.
Check in stores how much you have left and buy some if you can. I useed the money ammo to buy filters and some upgrades on weapon. Never bought weapon and ammo. On higher difficulty I sometimes bought medkit and filters just to be on the safe side...
(take off mask wait 8 sec , put mask on for 1 sec and take it off .. rinse repeat)
got past and completed the game, one of the best story based games ive played
I meant saving up and abusing the filter till you get to the boss..
Wouldn't that be possible? Idk how it is in LL havent played yet but you
should probably have more than 10 minutes available from exploring and saving up?
Or filters are much rarer in LL? Cause in 2033 redux they are everywhere not even once i needed to buy filters and still had plenty of time to explore without mask spam. (I play on survivor hardcore btw)
Filter rarity depends only on Ranger mode or Survival/Spartan mode. Redux balanced this between both games.
I generally only play Surv RHC and with enough searching you'll find all stashes of money or filters. Filters can be bought if you don't find enough, but it's not too rare of a resource from what I've found.
The most you would ever need to do is load a prior chapter to search for more filters, but the current chapter will 90% chance have enough filters fo you to find on any game type to finish that level.
Mask spam will alaways work, its just near impossible to do in a boss fight.
I'm now also stuck on this boss because I run out of filters (I have searched and found everything I can, this is just how long it took me to beat the monsters on the level, etc). So I die on the boss because he takes so much ammo to kill, and I only have 1 filter to complete it. Which I think is simply not enough.
If the filters are such a big deal in these games, why not make finding them more plentiful? I I think found total of maybe 4 in this section and that's with really having to look everywhere because they place them in out-of-the-way almost hidden spots. It's really annoying. Otherwise a solid shooter but managing and hunting for these filters on the surface literally ruins any of the surface gameplay areas.
Edit: Thankful for the help of this thread. I was able to spam the gas mask on-and-off to stretch my one remaining filter during the boss fight and was able to finish it. Seriously, this boss fight takes 3min+, minimum. I have no idea how many people would have legitimately that many gas masks left by the end of this level. The ones I find on corpses last 1 minute only in Survival Hard mode. So I've found a total of perhaps 4 or 5 minutes worth of filters/gasmasks in this level before the boss fight. It's just not enough. Thank god for this gas mask trick!
you're looking at it from the wrong angle. The "ticking clock" *is* the game, and why so many of us love this series. the intentional resource starvation is the fun... if you had 6 hours filters, 9999 of every consumable, medkits, every ammo... it would be a graphical version of the novel stories. where's the tension, the fun?
move. constantly move, and move fast. make decisions on-the-spot, don't crouch and study and spend 30 seconds trying to spot a enemy patrol pattern, make a decision and go with it, immediately. you chose wrong? whoops. knock him out or kill him, but don't stop! fatal mistake? well life in Metro is fleeting, death around every next corner...
like 3+ minutes for the ubershrimp fight, OK that's what it took, but you can do it much much faster. if you had a quad-barrel duplet which you passed a bunch of or a valve and a few rounds, if you hoarded your grenades and claymores til you really need them, you could do that 1-2-3-4 stage sequence in seconds without taking damage.
filters too, you can explore the whole map on most all levels, and find more than you "waste", but only if you don't stop to make charcoal drawings and admire the scenery. :-)
it might not be how you want to play, I get that, but I post this in the hope that you'll give it a chance; think of it as a game you chug 3 redbulls and scream "gogogogogo!" at load screens, and I promise both your experience and your fun will change.
