SPOILERS Ending of "Contagion", begining of "Quarantine"

Help me out here guys...

So, I'm on my first playthrough and I get to the stand-off with Lesnitsky to rescue Anna. He asks for my gas mask, I shoot him in the face (this being my first playthrough, I don't really care about morality points)

So, the next level loads and I don't have my gas mask, me and Anna run to Hanza and then Artyom gets some post-apocalyptic poon.

My question is: Where the ♥♥♥♥ did my gas mask go? Did I blink and miss the cutscene?

If not, this some serious immersion breaking♥♥♥♥♥♥ When a video game presents you with a choice, the choice needs to matter and be respected, otherwise it takes you out of the experience and like the game is giving you the finger.

tl;dr: I DID NOT GIVE UP MY FU#KING GAS MASK, SO WHERE DID IT GO?
