Colin McRae Rally

Corsica rally is unbeatable
I think they must've made a patch or something in the past, which has made the Corsica rally significantly harder.

Look at Youtube videos of the Corsica rally from 2014 (pc version). If you manage to beat the first checkpoint of Corsica stage 1 with 25 - 25.5 seconds, you're ahead of the a.i with 0.1 - 0,5 seconds.

Now, I tried this, and managed to go to the first checkpoint with only 24 seconds spent. The a.i's time? The a.i was 0.65 seconds AHEAD OF ME.

So compare this:

2014: Corsica stage1/checkpoint1/25 seconds = 0.5 seconds ahead of a.i

2016 and forward: Corsica stage 1/checkpoint1/ 24 seconds = 0.6 seconds behind a.i

Don't believe me? Let's compare the end times for stage 1 of Corsica:

End times for Colin Mcrae of Corsica stage 1 at 2014, based on Youtube videos: 03:00:00 and 03:01:00. So if you manage to beat stage 1 with 02:59:00 you will usually win.

In 2016 and forward, the end time for Colin Mcrae is 02:44:00 to 02:47:00.I'm not kidding, the a.i blasts through stage 1 over 10 seconds faster than before.

Among Steam videos (2016), one player managed to beat stage 1 with Lancia Stratos with the time 02:42:00. But the thing is, you unlock Lancia via beating Mixed Rally Series B - which means you have to beat Corsica in order to unlock this beast of a car.

What happened here? The game is unbeatable now. I tried to go through the rest of the stage, cutting corners dangerously but succesfully in order maintain my speed. Nothing worked, the a.i managed to get more and more ahead of me. In the end of the stage I was 7 seconds behind.

You've managed to beat Corsica in the past, before 2016? I urge you to try again with todays a.i. It's simply unbeatable now. If you manage to beat stage 1 with 02:50:00 or less, I tip my hat to you.

Oh, and thanks developers for breaking the game lol.

If you think corsica is hard try mixed series 1. What's even worse is you have to come 1st to get the next car unlock and I came 2nd.

Yes, I'm currently stuck at mixed series B. The last Corsica rally is just too much.

I think its the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ controls that make it so hard. You're either full right or full left, full brake or full throttle nowhere in between.
Andy Mar 3, 2018 @ 4:54pm
For me, it's the fact that even though I'm pressing full throttle, the a.i is getting further and further ahead. My car simply isn't fast enough an believe me, I've experimented with all of the 3 unlocked cars.

I'd really like to know from the developers what happened between 2014 and 2016. How can the a.i change its stage times from around 03:00:00 to 02:44:00 in the Corsica rally? It's ridiculous!

I'm sure many people wouldn't even sneeze at this game since it's just a hastily made mobile port, but I wanted to give it a chance it deserved. Right now however, I'm just about ready to delete it from my library.

I think it appears that the a.i is going faster than you can possibly go in parts of the track because the ai progress line thing is just an average of the ai lap. So it doesn't speed up or slow down it just goes at a constant speed. tbh I only play this on my macbook cos its the only thing it will run xD. Got it for 99p on sale. However if they fixed the crappy controls it could actually be a decent game.

So, it looks like I am not the only one who thought that Corsica is broken. I've been trying to beat it for ~2 hours, no luck, the car is underpowered. My best was keeping up with the AI until the middle of the track, after that, my opponent started going incredibly fast.

After some googling, I found out there is a program which can help you stop and resume time. I do believe that's called cheating, but if the developers decide not to do anything, its the only way of unlocking the achievement without using Steam Achievement Manager.

"So it doesn't speed up or slow down it just goes at a constant speed."

According to encore the a.i gains further lead after halfway through the track. Ironically, that's when the roads get less windy, at least when looking at stage 1.

I think I'm done with this game. Will delete it now and get back to Dirt 2 and Blur - those are some proper racing games lol. Though I admit I miss the old school rally games. This game gave me a small hint of that nostalgia but then it went down the drain.

I do think the cars are underpowered - on the straights they just don't seem fast enough or even accelerating between corners. I should look into getting a mac copy fo dirt 1.

Yes, and before 2016 this wasn't a problem. Just look at Youtube videos from 2014. The a.i was definitely beatable back then, you just had to drive using skill. Now, it has nothing to do with skill if it comes down to horse power where the a.i is simply faster than you lol.

Yes, definitely buy Dirt 1! I have around 200 hours clocked for that sweetheart on my xbox - I used to play it for hours on end back at high school. Those were the times.

...Or should I get dirt 2?

Guys, I did it! I finished Mixed Rally Series B @ first place! It's possible!
My strategy was to beat Greece 1 and Australia 1, but come second in Corsica 1. This worked!
I've finished the Rally Series with 26 points (out of 30) and I got Lancia Stratos!
Although I didn't come first, I got the car that can get me the first place!

Here are some screenshots, that show my progress.

2. Here is the screenshot where I come second in the series:

P.S. I changed the resolution and it felt like the car started to turn better and a bit faster, maybe I am just making stuff up here, test for yourself.

P.S.S. I drove a Subaru Impreza, the fastest out of the 3 first cars in my opinion. The least damage the better (obviously), I had the car in bad shape and the engine was working worse (made me lose speed in the 90 degree corners and hairpins),

It turned out to be possible, I can only wish you good luck and hope that you can do it!

I came 2nd in the mixed series 1, I'll give another go see if I can get the mitshubishi.

Just believe in yourself mate! Its possible! I recommend you use the spacebar in the hairpins and sharp corners (if you haven't been using it already).
Good luck!

Will probably try your strategy later this year. Thanks for the heads up! But now I need to take a small break from this game :D I've had enough for now (and just yesterday deleted the game xD)

Will definitely update with the situation as I try again.

I did put it on 800x600, cause why the f not.. In the end Corsica became way easier. Some stages were on par but some stages were far easier. I finished Mixed Rally B in Corisa with 16 seconds ahead. If I remember correctly.

Time for me to finish this game. Started a year ago, then removed the achievements with Sam. Now I am playing again. Thank God there is Cloud Save so I could continue my savegame from a year ago. However, the achievements didn't pop up so I had to use SAM again to gain them. Now I can finally go Mixed Rally C and Expert Rally, thus complething the game for good!

TLDR: Set game to 800x600 and Corsica become way easier!

Edit: I think it's either more fps means better physics, or the game plays better on 4:3 because the roads appear to be wider, etc.
