Daum makes the game completely unplayable.

Every time I move my mouse the game stutters and freezes, but otherwise Daum seems to fix bugs that crop up with regular dosbox like the weird multi cutscene starting frame bug or the bug where music decides to randomly loop specific five second bits of a song over and over before actually continuing with the track. I know asking on Steam discussions is generally a massive waste of time, but I'm hoping maybe someone knows how to make this version of the game a better experience overall.

Daum has been basically dead since 2015. The main branch of dosbox hasn't updated since 2019.

Try dosbox-x or dosbox staging. x has some annoying default settings but works well and has a simple gui instead of being just a command line. Haven't tried staging, but apparently it's pretty good.
