Harvester

Harvester

Lodge: Stuck at the end (no health items)
I've progressed to the arena part where you can choose between killing the old couple or sparing them.
I chose the latter and thus had to fight that gladiator dude. He hit me once before I finished him off.

So, this is what I'm left with here:
- Only slightly diminished health (I think it's medium health; Steve's face looks a little bruised in the inventory screen, but nothing serious)
- Nail gun ammo: 9
- Shotgun: 2
- Chainsaw: 15
- Health items: None

Next I get into that room with an armed enemy teleporting in, and 2 of his shots and I'm goner!

There doesn't seem to be any way to block his shots.
My 2 shotgun bullets aren't enough to kill him. Maybe the 9 nail gun shots would suffice. I'll never know, since I'm not even given enough time to empty the clip!

Of course, none of the official cheats work with the Steam version, either. :-/

Any clues/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Josh

My tactic is to stay as far as possible the right corner of the screen. expect him to appear and start walking (While he's in the teleport animation he will not take damage) with the ammo of the nail gun you have I think you can kill him easily, the problem is that then pops up a second enemy that appears on the right side, then as soon as you kill the first, go to the left side as soon as possible, the next enemy has a medium range attack, if you did not waste unnecessary ammo on the first guy you should kill him before he approaches you, if not, use the chainsaw, in the next room you will encounter the last guy, I recommend spare the shotgun rounds for him, he have a powerful and long range attack (practically unavoidable in the small room you have to face it, if you let him do it) with the two shotgun blasts right on the face he should go down (with the chainsaw or another melee weapon you have to be very lucky to kill him without being annihilated). Sorry for any engrish from my part

Hi! Thank you for the clues. I'll try it, but I guess I'm pretty much screwed without cheats. The combat is beyond clunky in this game :-D

No problem, the combat system sucks and unfortunately The Lodge (And the game's climax) in the end is just combat and more combat, btw you fix the password thing? Same thing happended to me, I fixed it by deleting one of the INI files in the directory ... /common/Harvest/HARVEST and rebooted the game, I think it was the MENU.INI one, but I'm not sure.

Actually, no, I'm still having that issue. Can't play anymore right now, 'cause game keeps quitting when I press enter or esc. It always wants me to enter a password now when I start. Deleting MENU.INI didn't help. Gosh, this is annoying.

You can try the other two in the INI in that directory (HARVEST.INI and CONFIG.INI), if all else fails, I guess you'll have to reinstall the game, this BS password appeared for me after the last update of the game, from what I found, problems after updates are common with these DOSBox old games releases, sucks but the only way to
definitely fix the problem, just be sure to make a backup of your save files.

Hi!

Thank you again for your advice!

I eventually managed to work around that god-annoying password-popup glitch when launching the game windowed rather than full-screen. Though I don't even fully remember what I did... Randomly pressing a bunch of buttons, basically.

Still, no matter what I did (deleting INI files, verifying game cache and what not) the password screen kept popping up whenever I started the game.

Doesn't really matter now since I've finished the game yesterday and uninstalled it, but it sure is annoying, and I hope it'll be addressed in a future patch -- should I feel to revisit Harvest, 'cause a 'lovely' little adventure it is. Though I know support for these retro games is rather scarce.

Honestly I just put in the BRUCE cheatcode for infinite health. Usually I don't cheat in games but a lot of my issues with The Lodge was from the absolutely horrible hit detection and clunky combat system you had while fighting. It's a shame the game takes a huge dive in quality near the end because of that.

This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... I had to cheese through these combat sections by saving and re-loading during my encounters which seemed to freeze enemies on screen most of the time.
