IGN Review X rebirth: 4.3 BAD
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/12/02/x-rebirth-review just check the Verdict at the end: no matter what happens with stability and bug fixing patches, its poors controls, awful interface and dull pacing ensure that X rebirth will remain unpleasant for all but the most forgiving, die hard space jockeys, all said.

More than a fair review - a little high in my opinion.

It's over Jim. It's to late for this now.
You need to snap out!
They did what they wanted, the damage has been done.
The captain is dead.

This game is dead, Jim.
You hear me? Its dead!

Its dead Jim...
Its dead...

*watches how escorted npc trader bumps into station for 8 more minutes*

Worse than dead...
Its brain is gone...

So after the patches and updates this game is still not worth buying? I am looking for a great game that has a space sandbox gameplay and after watching videos I was hoping this would be the game but now after ready some of the reviews its making me hold off. I have never played any of the previous X games so I am new to this genre of games.

Theres a new video posted somewhere on the forums on the first page that explains a lot of the problems with the game (not including the bugs) Ive only played a couple of hours before stopping and waiting for the bugs to be fixed but aparently they are only part of the problem.

" First, it’s cursed with a tremendous number of technical issues, making it unstable and glitchy while hamstringing its performance, even on my mid-range gaming PC. Those failings may change with time and patches, but the second and more significant set of problems will not: from conception to execution, X Rebirth consistently misses the mark about what is valuable and interesting in an open-ended space sim. It’s consumed by minutiae and a terrible interface for managing it, turning what could have been a lightspeed journey among the stars into something more akin to a numbing, monotonous trudge across a crowded mall parking lot on a hot summer day."

I feel exactly the same. Egosoft CAN and WILL patch the game to get rid of the bugs and crashes. Yet, even after that, the game's "features" are a mess. These features will have to be reworked and that would just be too much money and time to do. It would make more sense for Egosoft to concentrate on the next expansion.

The game is just horrible and bad. Don't buy it, spend your money on X3 Terran Conflict or Albion Prelude.

Wow, that was a harsh, but honest, review. The devs REALLY need to respond to all of this because I'm wondering if they are actually committed to fixing the mess. They seem to be just ignoring the reviews and hoping no one notices.

Meh, last to the punch. Combined with giving 80 and 90 per cent ratings to complete dross, hopping on bandwagons does nothing to restore their credibility, however hard they wish.

If X:Rebirth was an EA game it would have at least 8.5 at IGN and praise for streamlining the gameplay - see Dragon Age 2 for proof :)

Dragon Age 2 had streamlined gamplay ;) That much is true. If that is good lies in the eye of the beholder.

I can’t believe the devs released this game in this state knowing that the devs of elite and star citizen were going to study and criticise it, you would have thought they'd put their heart and soul into making it look great and play great. Instead it’s unfinished and unplayable.
I’ve put in 100 hours hoping to get a station up and running and be a better game for it, but with very little trading and resources to gather, and to come back to the constructor to find it badly damaged by two fighters, as nothing defends itself, nothing repairs itself and it all takes so long.
If the game is fully simulated, like you’re playing and competing with other players in the game, how comes when I cap a ship it takes them 30 seconds to repair their engines and I have to wait around for 20 minutes. What a disappointment. I want micromanagement; I want to compete with the other factions. Not waiting around for ships and stations to be built and repaired.
It can take a whole day to make a station and another day to get it producing, for god’s sake what kind of game is that. It shouldn’t be like real life, its madness.
I do like the look of it though. Shame.

I don't think they are corrupt, but sometimes the way things go in games publications is functionally the same from the perspective of readers. I think it has been the same since the days of Your Sinclair and C= Format. :)

Who pays for the advertising? How objective is your reviewer (who will sometimes be an apex gaming enthusiast) given the thrill of access to the games, the merchandise, the big stars who make the games? etc. How many of the problems of the game did they ignore because they were they assured would be gone for release (reviewers do have to review "as if the bugs have been fixed for release" - an occupational hazard of getting reviews done before release).

We've all enjoyed a 65 per cent game once in a while, even one set in four repeated maps for 100 hours+ (or worse!) will have people who love it - I'm a great believer in seeing whether games are a fit for you anyway, despite reviews, I mean look how many individuals would give Terran Confict a terrible score for enjoyment.

With that said, and bearing opinion in mind as you say, I think a few DA2 reviews were enormously questionable for taking the game into the high 80s and 90s, you only had to play it, see the execution, gameplay and locations, to see that even if you loved it.

Declaration: I abhored the game myself.

I haven't used a review to inform myself of video games since I had a 486. Reviewers aren't trustworthy and user reviews are just putting out their opinion, trying to mirror the reviewers.
If you need their reviews to justify how good or bad a game is, you're not doing it right.
Now I'm going to fry some liver, because I'm a cook, it's what I do and I like liver. Some of you might feel sick at the thought. Good. Being a PUBE is backwards.

TL;DR - Egosoft is bad and they should feel bad, but they don't cuz they are evil scrublords.

I have been play X way back when it was frontier. I was unimpressed with a few of the latest releases. Can I get a positive from someone to encourage me to buy this version.
I have just seen the last thread on this topic. lol, out of date. I am talking about X rebirth 4.3 if someone is still hanging on.

I will reply with my review about X Rebirth: X Rebirth had a terrible start and I was initially massively disappointed by the confusing controls, an incredible number of bugs, the small game world and far too little content. After a few months it was already playable and Egosoft has patched a lot in the years since, so that X Rebirth is now in its vanilla version 4.10 a pretty solid game. If you add both DLCs it is really good. But it reaches real quality when you use some of the numerous mods from the community, which add new systems, ships, space stations, equipment, goods, factions, skills and gameplay mechanics to the game.
Of course, X Rebirth still has its weaknesses and things I dislike, such as the fact that you can only control one ship, but overall its strengths clearly outweigh them for me.
If you're looking for a space game with very good graphics and a lively immersive game world that is committed to the X principles of Trade, Fight, Build and Think and provides these to the player in an evenly balanced way, you'll have a lot of fun with X Rebirth.

You can find many mods here: https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=129&t=370788& or here: https://www.nexusmods.com/xrebirth/?
