X Rebirth = 34th worst game of all time. Rule 34, anyone?

I'm not at all surprised at the incredibly low score, but rather that Metacritic actually had the integrity to go through with it.

It seems as if they were giving the game a chance (possibly at the request of developers/publishers), but when even after 10 days of patching the game was still a buggy mess, the guys at Meta decided to go all-out on this pile of crap and picked one of the lowest reviews for their final mark.

Hopefully, this experience will teach game developers and publishers world-wide to uphold higher quality standards (e.g. release games that are at least PLAYABLE).

Who am I kidding, though...

Same here.. You are right on the money. I gave up wasting time on it. I had Assasins creed 2 in my uninstalled list so I am playing that now.. May give rebirth another go when they get to version 2.0 or higher.

I'm sad... Very sad. I love the X-Series and played them religiously. Now with these reviews, I'll just wait for the inevitable price drop and the 90% off to where it will make it $3.54.

Hmm. I've played it for 50+ hours. Taking a break for AC4, but will be back to it soon. So long as the patches keep coming and keep fixing things, I'll keep playing. I simply made a tiny addon to autosave every 10 minutes. Right now I'm just building up my fleet and fortune while exploring, taking the story line in careful bits and pieces. Story line and fleet management aside, never had a big problem. But then I do a lot of beta testing and early releases... Glitches and bugs just give me a break to grab a drink or bite to eat.

Now, with that being said, The terminator series can be compared to the X series
X1 = X1
X2 = X2
X3 = X3
X:R = X4


It doesn't matter what suffix you give a game, if the Prefix is the same as previous titles, it IS part of the series, thus X:R IS in fact X4, despite what the devs say. It's just not the X4 the fans wanted, and the devs knew this, so they stressed how "Not X4" it is.

This is just one aspect I've looked at when determining both the quality of the game, and the morality of the developers behind it. This game got a better score than it, or the Devs deserve at this point.

That would make Fallout New Vegas Fallout4.
Call of duty Ghosts, what, Call Of duty 17? Don't know how many there has been but too many imo.

Fine, to clarify it is perhaps 'playable' but it is also equally 'broken'. And that's not for shock value, its just an apt description. If I remove the rim from a backboard, I guess I can still technically 'play' basketball, but it sure isn't the way it was intended to be played, and the remaining 'game' becomes broken enough to certainly ask oneself 'what's the eff-ing point'.

Also, as you admitted in your own post, there are certainly people that are unable to play the game....which leaves only one apt description...unplayable. You claim this is simply a minority. I won't debate this as I have no statistics to provide (as you probably don't)...but I will point out that when professional reviewers are experiencing this same problem, I would not be so quick to assume its that small of a minority.

The game is unplayable not only because many customers can't even get it to run or are faced with constant crashes.

It's also unplayable because the gameplay is fundamentally broken on many levels, and because of the abysmally low framerates.

Even if you manage to get the car started, doesn't mean you can drive it. E.g. if the brakes are busted, it will be your last ride.

Even if you manage to get the game running doesn't mean it's playable. What you can do in X Rebirth right now does not qualify as "play", at least not in my book. And professional reviewers agree.

^This. I won't come back to rebirth until sometime in the New Year - I have other, better, working games to play in the meantime and over the holidays. Egosoft need to up their game and get busy with some sizeable patching. That's going to take months. I'll be back to see how they've been doing some time in the Spring of next year.

Shows what you know. X-Rebirth is actually the 7th game in the series. X1 includes both Beyond the Frontier and X-Tension. X2 was standalone (The Threat). X3 was three games: Reunion, Terran Conflict, and Albion Prelude.
