Please use the correct terminology: frame rate issues are NOT lag spikes. Learn the difference.
Here is what a "lag spike" is. This is NOT what half of you people are complaining about. What your having is FRAME RATE ISSUES.; Not LAG. Lag is from COMMUNICATIONS hiccups on the INTERNET, has ZERO to do with GRAPHICS issues. Most most PC gamers with an IQ above 80 know this. Stop. Confusing. The. Two.

They are DIFFERENT. When your FPS (aka FRAMES PER SECOND) goes to crap, that is a PERFORMANCE issue, not a "lag" spike. Lag has nothing to do with your problem. Nothing. Lag is an "internet" or networking issue where client and server have a disruption in communicating with each other, has ZERO to do with your graphics taking a ♥♥♥♥.

Here, to educate you console gamers, oops I mean PC gamers, this is what a "lag spike" is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4_epScFBpI

Notice how there is a DELAY in his ACTION and the actual EFFECT? That is a lag spike. That is not a FPS problem. So stop calling low frame rates a "lag spike". It's not the same. Never has been, never will be. This is what happens when console gamers who have never played PC games come up with FUD and miscommunication.

Now when most of you call something a "lag spike", this is what you are ACTUALLY are referring to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c49p55OI2vY or this one on the PS4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hty0nKzPjAE

Notice something? That is FRAME RATE DROPS. Not "lag". Lag is something that happens on the internet, it's not something that happens in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME that doesn't ACCESS the internet while playing.

So for the love for all that is PC gaming, stop with the low IQ confusion of what a "lag spike" is. When you are having FPS issues, you are not having "lag spikes". You are not. You are having "performance" issues that has ZERO to do with "lag".

Stop calling FPS drops "lag". Period.

Your having "frame rate" issues, not lag. Engage brain, stop being lazy. Stop using the WRONG terminology. It's not hard. If you want lazy stupidity, stick with consoles and Call of Duty.

Lag is a common word meaning to fail to keep up or to fall behind.
Lag is also often used in reference to video games to describe the delay (or latency) between an action by a player and the reaction of the game.
so by the defintion alone.....anything that slows the game whether it be internet or not....is LAG

Exactly. "Lag" is perfectly applicable to framerates, as in, the rendered frames are lagging behind the actions performed.

OP, if you know nothing about computers or English language beyond online shooters and MMOs, better keep that unfortunate lack of understanding to yourself and not add to the grief already pervading this forum.

FPS or LAG who cares. Lets just hope that sooner rather than later the game runs at a decent speed :)

THANK YOU! This has been driving me nuts for years.

Yes, "lag" means to fall behind and is kinda applicable to framerate drops. But in regards to video games, it is a technical term with a specific meaning. If you want to start splitting hairs, "lag" means to fall behind, meaning that there is some goal ahead of you that you're failing to keep up with. With regards to online lag, you have fallen behind the rest of the server. This breaks down with framerate issues because you aren't falling behind any kind of goal--you're just going really slow.

Don't worry, Buxaroo. You're not alone.

Sweet Jeezuz, this clown loves the use of caps to get a point across that nobody really cares about!

We get it, you don't like people using the term lag! Well, guess what, using CAPS to get your point across, and repeating the same point over and over again, amounts to the same kind of annoyance.

The irony. Wow, just wow.

Also, where is all this emotion coming from? How can this be so important to you personally? Pretty amazing all around.

Now I'm curious. How does a "low IQ confusion" work?
Is it more or less confused than an "average or high IQ confusion"?

In my RL experience, intelligence is no guarantee of technical knowledge. =)

Intelligence < Wisdom...some people with the Highest IQ's can be the dumbest people you've ever met....

Intelligence is just apititude, it does not count for knowledge or skill at application, its more....potential that actual. Swings and roundabouts anyway. It is laggy, but it's not lag - there happy now?

He's having a perfectionism fit. He wants world to be perfect, people to be intelligent, and everything else to be correctly labeled, reasonable and logical. Obviously, that's not going to ever happen.

I have this fit when i'm driving to work sometimes....damn sheep...MOVE PEOPLE.....it's not rocket science to be able to drive in a straight line on a 4 lane highway for 15 miles....

You are entirely right of course, but to be fair I have heard it used to describe both phenomena fairly regularly.
Queequeg Dec 15, 2013 @ 2:37pm
There is also input lag which describes the amount of time between a player action and the games reaction. It naturally increases with very low framerate. OP confirmed for IQ below 80.
