If autotrader was to get updated with trade ai and Ui I would like to try it again but I don't think the author is going to bother.

If you want to automate buying trade agents you could use the Explorer software mk3 or mk4 to buy trade agents. Mk4 cost 10 mill for software and 150k per agent. The mk3 costs 50 mill I think and agents are free. Warning if you don't have much cash then be careful with the mk4 software as you could end up penniless quite quick.

You can get some other mods that auto agents for free but I personally don't like them because they seem a little cheaty. Although it is a single player game, each to their own I suppose.
Meanwhile manually doing trade deals(menu 6-2) make tons of money (300-700k profit or more per run/ship)
The problem is that EGO wanted to remove the ability to make tons of free money with universe traders (X3), so they decided to remove it almost completely(npc's still using it) and users have to mod the game to reenable, with mixed result.
But micromanaging ship can be extremely boring after a few hours.
Ehh..this game could be so good, but still have so many flaws..
(sry for grammar.)
With this new feature it would actually be nice to have an autotrader using exactly these offers to pick the trades and it wouldnt feel like "cheating" since the autotrader would simply do what i do, just automatically ..

The autotrader will help, even if it does not make money, because it starts the NPC stations producing. There are a few NPC autotraders, but not many.
That means, in the beginning when you need money the most, it is hardest to get! But it also means that the rare good deal is much better than you find later, too.
Also, one hour is not long in this game, maybe a few trips. You need to do something else while it happens. Multitask! 8-)
