The AI still sucks on them but using a large group of Balors and/or Sucellus' together is a great way to make use of their abilities.

Oh ... i captured an arawn for the first time and:

1) The engines are floating beside the ship
2) Boosts for some seconds ... stops ... booosts
3) Takes even longer for simple go to position command than usual dump AI

And thank god this thread is not about buying software from mechanics ... i'd have to talk tabout being stuck in an invisible menu rendering the game broken as soon as you pres s buy or sel...

I guess if i want a good X instead of a almost at the brink of nearly quite good i have to programm it myself.

Epic Void - but you did test 4.0 ? - It does not sound like that.

Well I knew the Arawn Problem. For newly spawned ships this Problem seems to be gone. Maybe some older ones may still have the engine displaced. I did a clean start.

The AI all in all is better in some aspects. It now retreats and formation behavior is better. If you have a large fleet and small space to move it still may have some problems. But that could be expected - I had no major problems so far.

If you releate to broken AI in the way that sucellus and Balor will do frontal attacks. Well ocasionally. Balor at least - i have no sucellus to test - will do some sort of attack runs. Not sure if intended but it will fire it's missiles at least. But this could still need some work, so we get specific Movements fitted for the ships.

If your ships fail or are slow, it's mostly because your crew should have some better skills. I go for fully leveled crew on my ships. (Gained a virtual seminar for every skill and then change amount to 9999 in savegame XD ....)

Go to position works, but sometimes there are some weired moves and they are not always taking the shortest path.

To conclude ... AI is still not perfect, but it will perform well in most situations now (well in termns of, not getting stuck or something like that and getting it's jobs done.), but still lacks special attack patterns for unique capitals.

The stuck menues seem to be gone too.

In regard of arawn i encountered with the following problem. When i order to arawn to attack station, it don't lounch any drons at all.
Mr.Thi Mar 7, 2016 @ 2:17pm
As far as I know, Drones are not used against Capitals and Stations. They are only used against S and M ships ... for ... some ... reason
arsharlahy Mar 7, 2016 @ 2:22pm
Even drons marked as "usable against slow and not moving targets only"? I think it's bug. In definition of Assault URV mentioned that them very potent against stationary targets like stations.
Mr.Thi Mar 7, 2016 @ 2:53pm
.. Assault URVs are not really ingame. They are just listed (why ever).
arsharlahy Mar 7, 2016 @ 2:57pm
Why you think so? I can by it to my arawn and if arawn can't use it that's what i call bug.
arsharlahy Mar 7, 2016 @ 3:01pm
By the way , if I understood correctly , it's impossible now totaly destroy station. And why in game exist drone specialised for station destruction if that's imposible? I can't understand it.
IronSquid501 Mar 7, 2016 @ 6:52pm
You can damage stations to the point that they are virtually useless, but if you could destroy stations then Xenon would just go around popping stations until there's no economy left, and ship-building stations would be completely gone as they can't be replaced.

As for Sucellus', I've noticed that while they don't sit at a long range hitting things with their IHC, they DO make as much use of it as possible and may even attempt to get their foes in front of them to do so (As I've noticed they use them more than they used to)
cwsumner Mar 7, 2016 @ 7:17pm
Sucellus and Balor, which should have longer ranged attacks, are better in V4.0. There is a mod, "Miscellanious AI Tweeks" I think it was, that is better yet. Although some were saying the mod was too overpowered. Surprising how much difference tactics make.

I recently captured 3 Balors - the other 3 got destroyed by a TER taranis (they all spawned as a finale for a mission chain) and they reliably fired their missiles soon as their engines came up. Vast improvement over launch state, when engineers couldn't even fix the damn engines. Nevermind firing their weapons...

Well there seems a workaround for that. Order your arawn to move to another sector.

That has been reported as "repair laser" mod fault, you can get more information on the issue in this thread:

Well, i play vanilla and started a new game with 4.0.
It's a new install after 4.0 was released.

Arawn AI seems to be broken and the engines do float besides it. Switching the sector (myself or the arawn <- latter takes ages with SETA) does not help at all.

Perhaps they missed it fixing this issues for the Linux version. But i don't know a single reasonable reason why should this have happened.

And to be honest i won't start a new game again. I am too lazy to do all the smalltalk ♥♥♥♥ again.
