Any way to tone down the extremely bright Bloom?
I am just wondering if there is any way to tone down the extremely bright Bloom levels of the game. I thought maybe the Glow option would do it but I really do not notice any difference changing that setting between off and max so I am not sure what that is affecting so any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

There are filters you can enable to desaturate colours in the settings.

Care to elaborate as I am not seeing anything like that in the Graphic Settings unless you mean outside sources like using Reshade or SweetFX.

Nvm, I was on low coffee level and didnt realize I was answering to a X Rebirth post. My comment was related to X4, where this option exists.

I am not sure if this may help - but I found that the different cockpits that you can change out at station mechanics/engineers (I get the two mixed up) have an effect on some effects imo. In particular the combat cockpit, for me, gives very little glare, a large viewspace and less game lag than say the standard cockpit - so a win on three fronts. The traders cockpit would be great imo, if not for the dirty screen that picks up a mass of dirt/glare at certain angles when facing light sources.

You might want to try a shader mod like X-Rebirth Re-Imagined 2.1 or Sweet Rebirth FX, both available at Nexus Mods. They're not extensions, they're shader injectors that can change the lighting and both can tone down/remove the bloom. I'm using a self-modified, brighter version of Re-imagined myself, since default XR is very bloom heavy/washed out.

I also installed Remove Fog (if you have Teladi Union and Home of Light, you'll also need the versions for them), which removes most of the space fog/smoke that you see everywhere.

Out of curiosity, how did you get your tweaked version of X-Rebirth Re-Imagined to work with 4.3 as I downloaded that mod when I started playing to try it but the game will not even start at all when I try to run it with that mod added and going by the Nexus posts it seems to be a known issue.

You won't like the answer, but for me it just worked. I'm using X-Rebirth Re-imagined 2.1 64bit. After my post above, I downloaded Sweet Rebirth FX to try, because the Enhanced preset there looks closer to default XR, minus the bloom, and it didn't work for me. Using it's sweetfx_settings.txt with Re-imagined did though, so that's what I'm using now (it's brighter and less blue than re-imagined, even after I tweaked it).

Are you using a 64bit OS? No idea if that matters, but it is called v2.1 64bit. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64, with a GTX 970 and both the Teladi and HoL DLC's (not that the DLC should matter).

I guess you could try and find a newer version of sweetFX (maybe in the skyrim/fallout4 sections on nexus mods? or just google) and droping the Re-imagined or Sweet Rebirth settings file in that.

Thanks for the answer as it might be your version of Windows that is allowing it to work as I am on Windows 10 64 bit. I will have to look into the alternatives you mentioned and see if I get lucky.
