KB/M or Controller?
Which is generally easier to play with? I generally prefer controllers for games where I fly or drive typically, but it's been a while since I've played a spaceship game. Also, is there a way to toggle the throttle like kb/m? Or am I stuck holding it down the entire time?

Its hard to answer, as it depends on your own habits.

For me, dog-fighting is best done with Joystick, but can be done with KB/M too without much trouble. For most part though I would use KB/M to fly about and manage stuff.

I have a controller, but dont use it for any of the X games tbh (only use it for console ports like AC and teh like that are virtually impossible to play with KB/M). Its a PC gamer thing I guess.

I'm in the same boat as Ketraar, I use a joystick for dogfighting or when I want to fly myself. When using Autopilot or doing anything else I switch to a keyboard and mouse.

I do own a controller now but I haven't tested it with Steam. It probably won't compare to a Joystick + KB/M combo for me. Unless I get very creative setting up my Steam Controller.

I use a X box controller for X Rebirth, I prefer the controller flight model over the use of the keyboard/mouse, but the downside is you loose functionality as some of them were implemented in patches and were not mapped to the controller. At the end I kind of use everything depending what I want to do.

What controls are not mapped to the controller?
Lupo Jan 7, 2017 @ 1:20pm
The target ones for hostiles and surface elements on ships, and radar modes first come to mind.

Thanks Lupo. So, you're still able to play easily with the controller? Or would you recommend KB/M?

I play with no problem with the controller, best thing to do is just try both briefly, I did and decided for controller, purely because I prefer the controller flight system.

Yeah, I tried it out last night with a controller. Even though I play practically everything with KB/M, this particular game works great with a controller. I also switched over to the Legacy menu system which works much better with the controller.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I've settled on using my 360 controller for the majority of flying with using the keyboard for some of the shortcuts as needed. Working my way through the campaign now.

If you're still looking for this, it can be done. Just remove the mapping for the throttle on the trigger and map the trottle up/down functions to some other buttons (bumpers, or grips on Steam controller).

If you do this, I'd recommend this mod Egosoft Forum Link[forum.egosoft.com] which changes the "steps" in the throttle for finer control.
