You may add them to your "Friends List", then simply right click on their name and "Join" or "Invite" ...
There is no "grouping" as to avoid unbalanced teams in public, however if you wish to create a Clan and measure up against others you may also do so.
Removing "Team Balance" in the room options will however allow you to all join the same team in public games if you have the room host.
