Hunting becomes harder as times go by?
Im wondering this for a long time, but hunting is becoming harder as seasons goes by?
Whenever I start a new save as I have poor spear skill and next to nothing track skill I can still hunt a few deer (doe or stag in different saves, at least 2 or 3 of them), but when I reach mid-Autum I tried to hunt a doe (to save the meat for the winter) and I chased it for 5 days and didnt catched it even tho I hurted it several times (spearfighting around 30%)
I stopped trying since I lost so much time chasing it and needed to finish my hut so I labeled as bad luck

Now that I have a nice home Im trying to hunt again deer just to find that is the same situation, now I have 34% spearskill and Im a better tracker but the doe keeps escaping
I think that is supposed to keep the damage inflicted but it manages to escape even if I hurt it 3 times in a row it still escapes

Here a short video of one example, similar to this keep happening every day

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo3odGoNgJo

You can see that I keep damaging the legs, none of that wound were superficial so they had to prevent it to escape at some point but dude, escaping 3 times in a row? even when we both fell thru the fairy hole and it managed to escape from there? lol that some really resilient deer haha
If it was the same deer and I inlficted another 2 leg wounds (not superficial) I wonder if it is really the same deer or is that leg damage does do 0 damage to the deer

But this is just one example, one time I hurted in the head, escaped/chased + 1 wound in the leg and escaped/chased again and in the 3rd round I missed the attack and escaped again :nonplussed_creep: and this is for the Doe, I think stags are even sturdier since I can chase it 2 times only because it ran out of stamina quickier that chasing a doe

Yes I know that some enchantmens helps with this but if you are saying that I need 5 X animal/spirit just to hunt a deer I think that players that like to use Down to Earth are pretty screwed (i have 1 save with Down to Earth as my only perk and is pretty difficult just to survive autumn already)

For foxes, I'm sure it works. For does, I don't hunt them, I only trap them, so I can't know for sure.
Sometimes, when animals are escaping, you have the opportunity to brace, with lower hit chance but higher damage. I've already seen it inflict fatal wounds to wolves. Maybe it would help against does?

Deer are quite tough, and poke is the least damaging attack you have. It seems reasonable to me that it was able to survive the four times you poked it.

For deer, brace tends to be the best option, since it does massive damage to anything fleeing or charging at you. Even though it has a lower hit chance, the damage it does will make it a lot easier to chase and finish it off when you do land it.

I pretty much knew that someone was going to say "try attack A or B or C that is better", so I prepared that save exclusively for testing fighting against doe and stags (normally I play realistic mode but I prepared this save to test some things)

The problem here is that it doesnt hit that often and the Doe can escape even if you brace and hit twice in a row, Im not that good in maths but I dont know the exact probabilty that an attack with less than 30% hit twice and even so in the very few cases that I hit twice with brace I missed the next attack so it escapes again

The first video linked was just to show that damage doesnt stop the doe and it was an extraordinary rare (for me) case that I hit 3 times in a row, because normally I hit only twice and escapes

Here I prepared another video, 7 attempts (video is speed it up) to show how normally goes, and I used several attacks to prove it that is really hard to hunt down deer (brace only and brace and poke combinations) but the exact same thing happened to me in Autumn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt5JEEHBzWs

I took 7 out of over 20 attempts that I failed every single one of them

Just to remaind you that I normally play Realistic mode (just like back in the island) but is just to remaind my topic question, It becames way harder to hunt as times goes by? If I didnt get a single one in over 20 attempts then what to do in my reallistic saves?
I dont have a save spot available now but I didnt start another save since last week but if is this hard to hunt a deer now then forget it to complete the leather quest to unlock mittens and fur coat, but I know that maybe is just easier in summer...

Oh and I forgot to mention, in one of my attempts I catched the Doe by surprise, and yes I missed lol

To be fair it was the only once time that I surprised a Deer, never happened before so Im not sure if it was better to use brace or poke or thrust.. those they give extra damage if used in a surprise attack?

If you play with magic, spirits can make hunting much easier, especially the spirit of darkness, due to the ability to blind the target. In autumn, it is especially convenient to hunt males with the help of the spirit of darkness, because they do not run away, but attack you. Prepare a couple of bandages in advance, even a blinded deer was able to wound me once with a horn.

If you're playing without magic, the easiest way to get a deer is with log traps. Build 5-6 pieces, and by winter you will have enough meat.

Well, I dunno what to tell you. I'm killing plenty of deer in the first spring and my spearfighting skill is about 40. I haven't noticed any sort of increase in difficulty, it's only been getting easier over time.

I think you just got unlucky and hit a bunch of non-vital spots with grazing hits. I've killed deer in two hits with a well placed brace that hit the head.
Well Im pretty much used to being unlucky, back in the island I got several unlucky events so Im really used now lol

I got curious as I stated before I was afraid of chasing a deer in a new save and I tried, at 11% I had to try 11 times to catch my first deer and I tried over 30 times for a stag and didnt got it once.. even tho sometimes I brace twice in a row, well lower skill will get me there more or less, what Im afraid is that if it will be harder to catch a deer in a new save (obviously no fighting or trap skill) then it will be really hard to complete the leather quest now :nonplussed_creep:
