Try the short videos on the guide section, or the tutorial section on the main menu.
If you still have questions after those, maybe some of the old guides from the ps1 version can give answers...
Or just ask the specific around here and people will help you out.

I don't understand the abbreviations. It gets confusing. I know if there were a manual I would be able to figure it out.

Imagine playing half-translated japanese version on PS1.

Sounds difficult to understand.

The UI is still the same as the original japanese game that had UI on english.

So this is a quick rundown:
F.T. may be "Fire Times" broken english for Rate of Fire, basically means the numbers of shots of a weapons per attack.
AT is Attack.
So a weapons with F.T/AT 6x10 fires 6 shots with 10 attack each.

Eg is Engine and means Power
Wt is weight
Rg is Range
Bt is Bullets and means Ammo.
"Ad" I have no clue what it means, and I never found a place that gives it a proper english name but is related to the chance to automatically use a shield to block damage, so it may be Auto-Defense
R.C is Running Cost and is an amount of money related to using that wanzer or repairing the broken parts after battle.

Mv is the Move stat, and while you will see 8 or 7 a lot, most of the time each tile consumes two move or more.

Mob is Mobility and would be similar to Agility because it affects Hit and Avoid but not that much.

Ev. may be Evaluation and represent the overall combat power of a Wanzer.

The you have weapons types:
MI = Missiles,
RK = Rockets,
MG = Machineguns, etc

And damage and armor attributes
S = Shock
F = Fire
P = Piercing
N = Normal

I think those cover most of the weird abbrevation, but those assume you're playing in english, if you are playing in any other lenguage FT, RC, EV and Ad aren't translated (because I think non of the translator human or machine knew what the hell they meant)

I mean, do you see the exp bar go up when you fight in the arena...?

You don't get exp in arena.
You don't get exp if enemy is killed by AI.
You don't get exp if enemy escapes.
You don't get exp if you kill boss and stage ends with other enemies still present.
In short, you don't get exp.

How lame. The first one gave you experience for arena combat.

Yeah, and I think in FM3 you also get reduced exp in simulation missions.

No arena grinding's experience is an effort to balance and make the games harder, so I approve.
For OP, I recommend Gamefaqs.
