FRONT MISSION 2: Remake

FRONT MISSION 2: Remake

Ver estadísticas:
Armless Wanzers still counted as a thread to dispose?
In mission 2, I almost got to a point where all my remaining mechs were out of ammo (and the melee ones dead), but I let live some enemies that were armless (and thus harmless) so I could go to kill the dangerous ones.
After I killed all the armed ones, the mission would continue until I finished off the armless ones, which I luckily just had enough ammo to do, and was a slog to reach with destroyed legs.

If I remember correctly, FM1 ended battles as soon as all living enemies had no weapons to use (or maybe it was only in arena?). Anyway, I didn't see an option to end the mission in this state, and that would be incredibly stupid to win fights just to end in a stale-mate because there's one remaining enemy, with no arms, but also no ammo to finish him off.

Devs, what's your take on this? Oversight or bad gameplay carried over from the original?

In FM1 automatic victory against armless was only in the Arena. In normal missions you had to finish off all enemies entirely which was not a problem considering all weapons (except for missiles/etc) had infinite ammo.

In FM2 you have to finish all enemies as well, but this time you have limited ammo in weapons. The thing is FM2 allows you to drop your weapons and use your fists to finish the enemy if needed.

Also in both games enemies have access to repair units that restore missing limbs. So for "armless victory" game would have to track if any repair units are present on the battlefield which would be additional annoyance not worth the effort I guess.

Also, in FM2 you can surrender the enemy units, thus making auto-win on armless units a big, big problem tactical wise.
Oh ok thanks, good to know. It's a shame that none of the remakes tell you anything about gameplay mechanics, not even in the menus...
1/ Does dropping guns also remove them from your inventory after the mission?
2/ How do you make them surrender? I remember FM3 had something similar, but haven't seen anything in the menus.

1. As far as I checked you actually lose the dropped item which is shame, so better to use it as a last resort. Extra ammunition can be put into the backpacks to keep you going for longer.

2. This requires special skill and multiple conditions needs to be applied in order for it to have a chance to work (arms and legs needs to be destroyed, body needs to have very low hp and enemy needs to have drained ap by surrounding him with multiple units), it can't be done in the demo.

There is a really big tutorial in full version (on Switch so Steam ver will also have it I presume).

Surrender - you need an Honor skill that is not available on early levels
