Secret Mission 2 - Missing Characters (Spoilers)
So I noticed that Secret Mission 2 is a bit different than the original game; is there a reason Ryuji, J.J and Keith arent there?

Probably a typo on the dev's behalf. They called the guy Crow, not exactly oozing with subtlety there are we. Which meant that "Royd" we met in Diaraba is an imposter (I mean come on, the hero of the 2nd huffman war looking like some street punk, please)

Royd fell into a pretty deep depression and he's basically a international criminal for siding with the Spirits of Huffman. Glenn was the one that requirted him into the Grimir group and all the things that entails.

The group that made the fan-translation of FM2 took some liberties when translatong so is not surprising that the guys that are with Crow weren't directly named like the FM1 characters in the original and that was added by the fan-translation.

Wait, what?

We have been lied to... the secret mission guy was named Crow all along (obviously a callsign of you know who)
The FM2 fan-translation also took the liberty of naming some Arena fighters like FM5 characters because... they could? I don't know.

But if you want a fact that will blow your mind, hear this, any info you see about a "Front Mission Zero" manga on the web is fake and can be traced back to the fan-translators of the series talking about it.

This is the deepest lore or ♥♥♥♥-up.

I would like a second opinion on this tho.

It's either lost media or fabircated. cant really verify since it's basically unrecoverable unless old copies of the japanese magazines turn up. FM being as multimedia as it is its hard to keep track of.
Well, I found the FM translation wiki, and what do you know, LegaiaRules is one of the founders, no wonder the majority of the franchise's guides on gamefaqs were written by him, he certainly knows his stuff.

So if I got this right, this wasn't a typo the translation group made, they deliberately misinterpreted the original source material, thinking that most players wouldn't know any better and would just accept the translation at face value?

Well, at least now 2024 we know the truth.
I revisited the mission and took another look. Aside from Crow, only 2 guys have special portraits, one of them does look vaguely like Ryuji, but doesn't really look Japanese like. The other guy doesn't look like Keith at all, and certain not J.J

Karen must be rolling in her grave if she knew how much of an ass her fiancée had become. Anyways, I had Rocky put Crow down with the Raven, nostalgia and poetic justice at the same time. He won't be joining Karen in the afterlife, if only she knew how much of an ass he had become after her passing.

Comes with the territory of horrific PDST and wanting to take an ax to the supernations that backed the same project that killed loved ones. Royd was always unhinged. The translation from the DS and remake softened this fact.

This actually the thing, the magazine is not that old, is from 1994, and there are copies that were autioned on japanase sites, and from the pictures on the auctions and descriptions they had Front Mission stories in them... the fake part is that those were "Front Mission Zero" and were never compiled.

The truth is that those old magazines had the individual stories that later would make the first Front Mission Manga, the one that has actually been fully scanned and is availible online, just not translated.

You can check for yourself searching for [ファミコミ] and working your way with google translate but I went deep on this rabbit hole the first time I heard FM Zero was fake, so trust a random obsesive guy and save you the trouble.

Whatever you are, my man, big thanks for clearing that out.

I wish there's some big Front Mission Youtube channel or something that can publicly clarify this ♥♥♥♥.

This is why I don't like when translators get too egoistic and cheeky.

Yeah I'm having the same rabbit hole since i dont ever go with "just trust me bro" I will say that 1994 counts as old far as magazines though wich is absurd since Japanese Otaku are pretty welll known for obsessivily compiling archives of stuff. So all i can draw is that there's an old blog that was deleted that had a lot of this stuff in it, or a fan translation groupl basically been making up half the connecting details about the franchise. I just wanna know if royd really turned turned cuckoo.

Not gonna complain that Royd was the only member of CC to go nuts.
