I have a couple of ideas what might cause the problem. But they depend on the used hardware/drivers.
But the first thing I would try is to look if the same thing happens if you set the game to run with low graphics settings:
- From the main menu enter the Options and afterwards click at the GFX tab.
- Activate "Display expanded graphicx settings".
- Switch Senery quality to low.
- Switch Characters quality to low.
- Deactivate Background figures.
- Switch Anti-aliasing quality to 0.
- Deactivate Reflections.
- Choose a low resolution like 1280x800.
- Click at Save.
- Afterwards leave the game and start it again to run the game with the new settings.
- Now check if the game still crashes randomly.
If that doesn't help it would be helpful to know with what kind of system (including hardware components and used drivers) you're trying to play the game. The best way to tell is to post a part of the DirectX protocol:
- press and hold the Windows-key and then the R-key (a run window opens)
- type in "DxDiag" and press Enter (DirectX Diagnostic window opens)
- wait until the progress bar disappears
- click at the "save all information" button an select a folder to save the DxDiag.txt
- open the DxDiag.txt, mark the text from the beginning up to "Sound Capture Devices" and copy it to your next post
It would be also interesting to know what anti-virus tool you're using.
And if the game is installed at a SSD drive.
Finally it might be helpful what the Windows Error Report says about the crashes. Open the folder "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive" (Windows 7 and up), look for a subfolder that matches a Black Mirror 2 crash (either from the name or the time it has been created) and enter it. Open the .wer file of this folder with a text-editor, mark all of its content and post it to your next post.
If the post gets too long post as much as possible in one post and the rest in an additional post.
I'm sorry but for a problem that is that rare or new there's no "oh - you just have to do that" solution right at our fingertips. :(
Update, I got it to work!! When the screen began to transition to the next scene, and I knew it was going to crash, I pressed Alt & Tab then left it for a while, and when I came back it had moved on! Don't know why it worked, but it did. I had the same issue later in the game and I did the same again, and it worked. I would advise saving regularly as it seems to crash a few more times moving from one scene to another. At least I can finally finish it :o)
Thanks a lot! Now I can finally continue the nostalgia :D
