I bred a Samoyed to a Black lab
And i got a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ black lab. Genetics-wise, this game doesn't even try. I was hoping that there would be at least pre-defined mixes in the game, but not even that. This game has 0 appeal to me now that the breeding aspect is confirmed to be so hollow. If only i could refund the game, but it took me THREE HOURS to breed my first puppy. Once again, i am dissapointed by a game that seemed too good to be true.

You want to get a refund cause you're disappointed with one aspect of the game?? What about the other parts? I guess you only wanted to breed with this game, which is strange since it's about dogs and sleds and racing. Sorry, but your reason for getting a refund is weird, but you said you've played for 3 hours, so you're already past getting a refund anyway.

Yes, the breeding part was the sole reason i felt comfortable spending 8 euro on a game that's less than 100 MB in size. You think it's strange i want a detailed breeding system IN A GAME ABOUT DOGS?! Dogs wouldn't even exist to begin with if not for the human fascination of breeding animals for their own purposes. The races are so-so. There is no real variation to the actual game from what i've seen so far, and i was hoping to find that variation, that incentive to replay the game and try new things, in the breeding system. Like i said, i HAD to play for 3 hours just to find out how intricate the breeding system was. I tried google beforehand but seeing as this is a new game, i found it acceptable that there was no real info to find online.

TL;DR: When you breed dogs in real life, you can never ever in a million years get a purebred from crossing two different breeds of dog. The game should at least TRY to mimic this.

Yes I think it's strange. Yes this game is about dogs, but it's more about DOG SLED RACING. It says that right in the title, so the main focus is the actual racing. Breeding would be a small part of the game, so the fact that you think it's going to be a very detailed feature in a dog sledding game sounds very odd to me. If the game was called Dog Breeding Simulation, then I wouldn't think it's odd.

Steam only refunds if you have 2 hours or less though. That's what I'm getting at. They may be able to refund if you could explain it thoroughly, but it'd probably be a once in a lifetime thing.

P.S. This is a low budget (I am assuming) indie game. I doubt the devs have the manpower to make a lot of 'mutt' sprites for breeding.

I mean, the sprites aren't high def. And i'm sure programming the game to at least allow for different colour and/or fur variations of the same sprite isn't out of their reach. All i really want is to not have my immersion in the game totally broken by the fact that the breeding system is unrealistic to the point where they just as well could have removed that feature all together and focused on adding more variation to the daily grind of the game. As it is right now, it's an incredible eye sore to me. And to be frank, i didn't search dog sled racing to find this game. I searched for "breeding" on steam, and this popped up.

Dude the game will continue to develop over time and breeding will probably be refined. And even if it doesn't get refined it doesn't matter because breeding is not the point here. Even though it exists this is not a dog BREEDING SIM, it's a dog SLEDDING SIM. You should have looked around the forum and asked about it first, if the breeding aspect is the only thing you are after.

P.S. It might be better to look into some of the many browser bassed dog sim games online. From what I know there are no dog games for the pc that allow you to breed dogs. Well other than the old PetZ 5 series.

Done that, unsatisfactory, Thanks for the try though. I'll probably end up revisiting the game once they provide some decent updates and additional content. Even if they make it a DLC, i'd pay for decent genetics in a game about genetically modified wolves. Because that is exactly what dogs are.

Maybe but you need to understand that not every game that has dogs or is about dogs will have a deep breeding aspect or should have one. Personally I'd rather they focus on improving racing and adding more features than meddling with genetics here cause that's not the point of the game. Especially cause not a lot of people (if any) bought this game for the breeding purpose. I'm not saying it wouldn't be interesting, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.

I'm sorry the breeding feature disappointed you SvampFiltreraren. It's intended as a mechanic to roll a dog with the gameplay attributes that you want than any sort of genetics simulation. Also as an exciting emergent story moment. Apologies if we misrepresented it in our game description.

I want to go into more detail in another post (need to pack for the Google Indie Game Fest this weekend!) but I just want to state that each dog breed is hand done - even the palette swaps - and making them is one of the most time consuming things in Dog Sled Saga's development! I would be thrilled to do breed blending, or fulfill every request in our breed request thread here, but it's just not possible with the way our dogs are created.

If I may be a bugger, do you have any plans to add muts in the future? :) Even if not, it's perfectly fine, but I was just curious.

Open to the idea, but not specifically planning on it!
aguswings Sep 25, 2016 @ 4:36pm
so how many breeds are there in this game?
lunarwolf4 Sep 25, 2016 @ 5:06pm
Seven I believe. Husky (3 colors), German Shepherd, Samoyed, Alaksan Malamute, Lab (3 colors), Miniature Schnauzer, Shih Poo dog. I think that's all of them.
aguswings Sep 25, 2016 @ 6:31pm
they should add Tibetan Kuvasz, Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Saint Bernard, Japanese Akita, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Karakachan Bear Dog, Half-Wolf Breed, Newfoundland, Norwegian Elkhound, Tibetan Mastiff
lunarwolf4 Sep 25, 2016 @ 6:56pm
They probably will add more in the future, but keep in mind that that takes a long time to do, so they might focus on something else first instead.
aguswings Sep 25, 2016 @ 7:15pm
do the breeds in the game feel different? or are they just different skin of the same dog?
