Flood of 'failed to load model (.obj)' errors.
Whenever I try to load a mod I get a flood of these errors; it seems like tabletop simulator can't load any object files. I've followed all the standard directions for fixing issues to no effect.

I'm not the only one having this problem, there's a thread on the official forums here:
http://www.berserk-games.com/forums/showthread.php?5323-Failed-to-load-model-(-obj)-on-every-single-game

The developer hasn't logged into the forums since May, so there's no help likely there. Can anyone provide insight?

Just wanted to chip in that my friend and I haven't solved the issue either, and I'm just adding to the growing list of concern over this. There's a handful of folks who can't even enjoy the game at the moment, and I think some sort of dev-response would, at the very least, give everyone some relief rather than being left in the dark.

Cheers.

Devin,

Are you trying to import the .obj or did it come with the table? Could you link this file so I can test?
Ric Aug 7, 2018 @ 6:21pm
I can safely assume, based on others who have been reporting about this, that it's not going to be an issue linked to one mod/object(s). It's affecting all custom content on TTS for those who are getting hit with these errors. My friend can't even load custom tables. To re-emphasize the list of things tried from that thread:

1. Tried cleaning the Models' folder to force the game to download needed files. No result.
2. Rebooting the router, flushing DNS, mapping Google DNS, setting exceptions with the firewall, disabling firewall - nothing of that helped
3. Verified the game's integrity. Reinstalled the game. Restarted comp. - did not help
4. Manually setting the link to the missing .obj file in my browser lets me download said file without any problem. The game however refuses to see such files. Trying to import these files manually did not work either.
5. Updated my video driver. No result
6. Turned mod threading off. Turned mod caching off and on. Cleared Steam download cache. No change.
7. Reinstalled C++. Nothing
8. Uninstalled from my SSD & reinstalled the game to the other HDD. Same result.

The question you need to be asking is whats the common demominator between my system and my friends that sets us apart from the 10's of thousands of TTS users that are not having this Issue. ?

For a start what System have you got. ?

So far you've not given a great deal of info other than what does not work for you. To fix this you need to isolate why your the exception to the bulk of TTS Users.

Find the Link to target the solution.

Well, here's where it gets complicated: It just happened out of nowhere. It would have been easy to isolate if this was a matter of always being the case (bad system specs) or if it took place directly after a patch, but it didn't even occur after the last patch. One day things were smooth, and suddenly my friend couldn't even open up any prior mods that were previously working. I'm sure the others who have been reporting this are in the same boat.

Exception? Check threads on www.berserk-games.com forums. Plenty of people are reporting this error. I had about 300+ hours in TTS before that error occured and now I am not able to play any mod anymore.

Yes exceptions. think critically here. If this was not effecting more the a tiny percentage. then the issue would recieve a massive amount of reports.

The game has sold over a million copies with 2 to 3 thousand players peaking every day.
thats a large number of observers for so few reports to come rolling in

your plenty of people is what 10 reports ? double that ? triple that ? thats a statistically tiny amount from this sized user base.

I'm not denigrating how anoying this must be for you or others suffering the same problem but right now your an outlier with no indication of what links you together.

are you all on the same O.S
use the same Antivirus software
connect through the same ISP.
is it system specific (ie you load your account from another machine entirely with the same results)
etc and so on.

the first step in fixing it is you collating what it could be otherwise your asking the Dev's to start shooting into the Dark on the off chance they hit the target.
Sylinde Aug 15, 2018 @ 9:18pm
The -same- antivirus as before. But the game does not work with it fully disabled. Same ISP, I have not changed a thing.
Here are my pc's specs.
Operating System - Windows 7 Max 64-bit SP1
CPU - AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 45nm Technology
RAM - 8,00Gb Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 535MHz (7-7-7-19)
Motherboard - Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. 970A-DS3P (CPU 1)
Graphics - E1942 (1366x768@60Hz) 1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 (Palit Microsystems)
Storage - 119GB TS128GSS D370S SATA Disk Device (SSD)
232GB MAXTOR S TM3250310AS SATA Disk Device (SATA)

The processor is old-ish but it was able to handle the game with little problem before, and SSD gave me enough speed boost to not lag much. So what happened? Devs are silent.

If it used to work fine for a good while and then suddenly stopped without any apparent reason, I'm thinking steam is the issue here.
Out of curiosity, and because it has helped me fix a similarly obscure steam-related issue that stopped me from uploading to the workshop, try to do what this guy does in the video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JADsIv2RUSw
You don't have to currupt the files in the remote folder, I don't think I did that. Or they are probably empty too if you never uploaded anything to the cloud before. But you do have to to delete the remotecache.vdf according to the procedure shown.

Does the issue go away if you disable mod caching in the configuration menu?
Sylinde Aug 19, 2018 @ 7:59am
I do not wish to rush much as I am still checking mods and saves. But seems like the new update fixed my issue somewhat. I still have some missing images, but all models load so far. Caching on and off did not fix me back then since I tried both ways.

not for me. Constantly been having these issues for 4 years off and on but trying to re-make a 3d model and it still constantly fails me. I have done all provided above so please dont re-quote these tips as "to dos". I am very patient but it is getting very frustrating. i have tried everything and there is no support from TTS, just noise.

Even moreso, the help TTS offers is just, go and get it off pastebin with vague information and this info is not actually explanitive or helpful to fix the problem. All seems out of date.

And No, I dont use Blendr and all those difficult to use 3D model apps. It should be as simple as transforming an image into a model, but it isn't.

It seems to be a TTS issue. Change how the format is uploaded to mod perhaps? Can't even use a paste from imgur.

I believe I have figured out what the problem is...I believe the issue is in the vertices count of the model that is being uploaded...I found a little tucked away website https://kb.tabletopsimulator.com/custom-content/custom-model/ that has a tip (under model tips about half way down) that says keeping your vert count under 25k...so I found that I had a ton of models that would not load but once I brought the model into Blender and ran a decimate modifier on the object to bring the vert count down...I saved and exported the .obj file and it load into TTS with no problem all my models...so I would recommend loading your object into a free 3d modeling program like Blender and checking and lowering your vert count...if you dont know how to do that there are a ton of videos that teach how to bring an object into Blender and lower the vert count...Hope this helps and solves this issue for you guys...Peace!

Had this issue and fixed it by turning mod caching off and loading in. Can probably turn mod caching back on after but haven't tested yet.
