Creating your own cards
When it says the face picture must be in proper template, what does that mean? What size must the picture be?

You don't really need a template...and I especially do not recommend the template that comes with the game, because the cards aren't evenly split up. The template is only good for knowing what dimensions you cannot exceed, which is 4096x4096. Your cards can literally be ANY size...it could be a long thin card, it could be a fat card. As long as your final template doesn't exceed 4096x4096, the game will display it properly.

The template of the custom deck will be 10 cards across and 7 cards down, giving you a total of 69 face cards plus the last one being the hidden card (the card that people see when it's in your hand).

Here's a video I made to help someone who was also trying to make a custom deck. (I talk a lot about the snap function because that was what the original post was about). But you can see how to build your template. Remember, the very last card (bottom right corner) is the hidden card.

Yeah I'm not sure that 4096x4096 is actually required. I've loaded in other (higher) resolution images with no apparent trouble.

4096x4096 is absolutely not required. The game will evenly splice it 10 ways across and 7 down, no matter the size of the template. But if you exceed 4096x4096, you are going to get an ugly looking deck when zoomed out. It won't display properly

Maybe it's talked about in your video there gadget, but the problem I was running into - personally - is when I scaled my images to fit into the template that's provided, the quality is bad because they are lower resolution cards. How do I get the game to be okay with lower res cards?

Thanks for the answers!

@Draktok

There is no need to upscale your images to fit into the template that's provided. In fact, don't use that template at all. Decide on the size of the card you want, and then make sure all your other cards are that exact size. Then open a new image that will be your custom deck and set the correct dimensions, which will be (card width x 10) x (card length x 7) The game will splice it properly. Once again, the total dimensions CANNOT exceed 4096x4096!

Also, a smaller custom deck image will not create smaller cards. I just tried a deck of mine that's 4096x4096, and then loaded up the same deck that's been resized it to 2000x2000. They both loaded as the same card sizes, but the 2000x2000 deck was far worse quality.

Unfortunately the game isn't magic and will not enhance cards that are already low res. Your only option is to deal with the low res card or find better quality cards (or re-scan as higher res, if that's what you've been doing).

If you, for any reason, need to make a deck with longer or wider cards, the game will adjust the sizes of the card models automatically as long as your card image is 10 cards wide by 7 cards high, whether or not you use all the possible cards the layout can hold. (I'm currently working on a game that uses cards that are longer than normal, and the game does stretch the card models properly without distorting the images.)

Did something change in the recent updates that would break this feature? I worked a deck off of the provided template a few days ago, and while a total pain, it came out just fine. Now I've expanded my deck with quite a few more cards and decided to try it the way listed here. My cards are 408x585 as that's the best resolution I've found to match the template, but placing them sequentially on a 4080x4095 ((cw*10)x(ch*7)) is giving me a deck of pure black cards. Anyone notice this trick no longer working? I'm just trying to get a solid deck import pipeline going that won't take me hours to fiddle with on new card updates. Thanks much in advance for any and all assistance.

Don't use the template provided, just use your card images at whatever size, making it 10 cards wide by 7 high.

Even easier, use this[www.nexusmods.com]. Give it however many card images (up to 69) and one for the hidden card face (in the last slot) and it will generate a full deck image for you.

Edit: After watching the video below, your problem may be using PNG. Use JPG instead, the game likes it better.

The Deck Builder is now included in Tabletop Simulator to make things easier for you. You can find it in your Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Tabletop Simulator/Modding folder.

I also go over it in my latest Tutorial Video (Custom Content), so be sure to check that out as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ56RjFqnj4

Is that the same deck builder I just linked?

If so, that's awesome.
Kimiko 30 ENE 2015 a las 15:09
Yes it is Emtu. :) It's also been updated so there are some newer/user friendly features.

Just a note, because you guys renamed the jar file for TSDB, the batch files don't work, because they look for TSDB.jar.

Thanks all, but I was already using JPGs and have also used the Deck Builder included/linked. I still got black cards w/ 408x585 (4080x4095). Please note that these files were under the 5000 recommended maximum, and more specifically, under the 4096² (ideal) texture size.

The only way I could get my decks to consistently load was to rescale my work to 300x430 (3000x3010). At this point, the cards look horrible in my opinion, and required quite a few layout amd typography changes, but they are legible and should suffice for a prototype of my game. I would certainly like to be able to use higher resolution images going forward, though, as my work is original and I would much rather put my best foot forward with it. If I were simply scanning-in/duplicating a previously existing physical property I wouldn't be as concerned. I hope you understand.

Kimiko, you guys have an amazing product with so much opportunity for people like me to create fresh, new content for, I couldn't possibly complain. I would just ask that if there is any way that a priority can be put on allowing higher resolution imagery to be added, it be given a firm look. I want to release some of the physical games I've been working on, and while your platform is amazing to that end, I don't want to be embarrassed by "fuzzy" cards, when I know that my work is crisp and clear.

Sorry if any of this comes across as anything other than a compliment and a plea to improve content importing for higher-quality work. Thanks all, for your time and support.
