Offline Tabletop Simulator
I do not support this. I've recently seen users join servers with the name "Player" and I've called them out on it that they are using a cracked version of Tabletop Simulator. Please Devs. make it that they have to purcahse an offical copy of Tabletop, is there a way to give keys to currently existing users, or some way of making the game an online/offical copy? I'm unsure if this was already posted, but I higly support this game :D

Think about it like a demo....if they try and like it, probably they will buy it....

If the devs wanted to put up a demo, then it's a demo. If people download the game from an unofficial Tabletop Simulator site, then it's a cracked version.

If the people use a drm free copy they got for supporting the devs on kickstarter, they're doing absolutely nothing wrong. I'm not sure why you're assuming it's a cracked version, or unofficial. It isn't being worked on anymore, but telling all those people who supported the kickstarter just for the drm free version "oh, no, you can't play that anymore," is a great way to alienate those early adopters.

If it's not being worked on anymore, then why are there players able to join up-to-date servers? If they where to join a current version of TTS, with an older version of TTS, it would state "Versions do not match."

It's not that I don't want them play anymore, it's that I don't want them to be able to play online with other people.

It's not your place to be concerned and it's inevitible that the devs are aware if it is a problem and will address it then. Until then, making aqusations like this is just a ridiculous investment of your energy. The whole "anti piracy" jazz was something made by paranoid corporate leaders, piracy sometimes benefits the little guys in reality. :p

Rex, what ElectroMite is saying is true. I have spoken with many of these 'Players' and they have told me themselves that they downloaded a cracked copy.

It is a problem and the devs need to be aware of it.

I never said what he is saying isn't true. I am more than confident the developers are more aware than we are.
is the original version of the tts offline?

fyi game needs to verify through steam and just auto-boot anyone not verified. As it is now there are tons of pirates, on tpb right now there is a torrent of the latest version.

devs.. get your ♥♥♥♥ together

Apparently it was in 2014

Today, it has steam DRM protection. As the person above mentioned, there are indeed people who try to use pirated versions, but they are only able to play by themselves.

To Join/Host servers, you need to buy it on steam.

You are nuts. There is a problem with pirated / cracked versions of the game. I've seen people getting banned in chat for it. You are just engaging in pure rationalization regarding piracy. It may not be anyones business but the devs, but you are just dismissing the concern out of hand. That is also not YOUR place. Piracy has been overblown in the past, certainly. But to say it's not a problem at all is equally dishonest.

Once upon a time, (when this thread was still relevant), the devs were still offering a DRM-free option for TTS. The challenges that this presented (piracy/lack of players' accounts [leading to no accountability for hacking]/having to maintain two separate codebases for each OS) along with not being able to implement Steam only options (i.e. the introduction of the Workshop) lead to the DRM-free version being discontinued.

At the time, piracy was actually well known and fairly common. Despite the number of Kickstarter backers that chose the DRM-free option being so low, those versions did manage to find their way into the wild. It happened... everyone knew it... and things changed.

(TLDR version)
STOP NECROING THREADS THAT ARE 2.5 YEARS OLD!

There's nothing wrong with "necroing" threads, if the discussion is still relevant, it's better than cluttering the forums by making a new post with the same ♥♥♥♥ in it.

How is any of it still relevant? Specifically replying to a person's post from two and a half years ago about the DRM-free version that no longer exists? The original necro post by n.field9 asking if there was originally a time when Steam authentication wasn't required? (I don't know why it would be necessary to know...much less relevant.) That was answered by Sekkuar after a few hours, anyway.

Continuously bumping dead and useless threads to the top of general discussion clutters up the forums just as much as creating new threads. More so, in fact, since the Steam forums archives only go back so far before you have to try to actively search for threads this old. That way whenever you bump a thread this old, you also get all of its old posts with no context that the information they contain has changed given the dozens of updates that have occured in the interem.
