Help us find more backgrounds for Tabletop Simulator!
Hey guys,

We're at the point now where we can add in more backgrounds in game, which we are more than happy to do because unfortunately custom backgrounds will not be feasible. So we'll need your help in sending us links to the nicest looking (and fun) backgrounds. We won't be able to add ALL of the ones submitted, but we'll more than double the backgrounds we currently have now.

1) We need HDRI panorama images that are between 80-100 megs in size. If you find bigger that is fine, but we won't accept anything smaller because the quality will be really bad.

2) Both free and commercial HDRI images will be accepted.

3) Example sites you can search:
http://www.openfootage.net/?tag=panorama
http://www.zwischendrin.com/en/browse/hdri
http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html

4) You can search for "HDRI", "HDRI Panorama" or anything else similar.

Just post the links to the ones you liked below. If you'd prefer to send them via email, please send them to berserkgames@gmail.com. Please only post in ONE of these threads. So if you find this exact thread on Reddit, please choose which one to post in. It will making sorting through all the links much easier. Thanks!

Just let us load our own images for the sides, with prefab lighting.
Since the 1st day of launch I've wanted a Cerebro room.

As stated in the original thread, we will not be able to do custom backgrounds. Sorry!

We need a dark RPG'ish forest enviorment, a cozy bar and a dark street with light in windows, cozy badass enviorments for late night gaming. Just my thoughts on it..

Quick question, why are custom backgrounds not feasible? Simply the size of the files? Could they be available for LAN only then? Or maybe host/clients have to choose to allow a custom background before it tries to transfer it?

Could you please define "feasible" in this instance?

A casino panorama would be nice. Here's a CC-3.0 one: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Thunder_Valley_Casino_Resort_Panorama.jpg

While I couldn't find a picture to match this, I'd love to see a room where board games and RPGs might actually be played. I imagine a cozy den type area, bookshelves on one wall filled with game boxes, another wall has RPG figurines and books. The kind of room like they show here https://www.acaeum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?cache=1&t=8714

I would like to see a space theme panorama like this one
http://www.eso.org/public/images/eso0932a/. This would be great for SciFi games.
Backgrounds of a pub and a gaming room (like em suggested) would be nice too.

No custom backgrounds? So we can't use a panoramic camera to put our own apartment or the local gameshop into it?

Mora managed to create a Background, using a sphere with inverted normals stuck into the center of the table.

The only problems are that it removes shadows from the game, and when the table flips it falls with it. Could light be cast through an object? I think custom backgrounds are still feasible.

Fake custom backgrounds are feasible yes, but we are using a special image based lighting render so that background influences the shading on objects (Skyshop). Check out the metal objects in different background and you will see what I mean.

The background must be pre-computed which takes a couples minutes generating all the lighting information. In the future we could offer a fake skybox that you can import your own custom image, but you will have to pick from our list of the included backgrounds for the scene lighting. So we want to include as many diverse lighting conditions as possible.

Also, the images linked to us must be a spherical panoramic .hdr image, just how the how the images look in the example links.

Yeah. The background looks good and the images used to create it were only about 6 megs. Totally feasible to have people make their own backgrounds. I don't understand why they would have to be 80-100 megs if 6 megs looks this good. 6 megs is within the range of current card and board images that people download and use. Would be nice to make the choice ourselves with official background support.
