Older systems
Has anyone tried running this on older hardware? I have a friend who has a fairly dated PC, and I'm wondering how the game would perform on lower settings.

How old? Also do you have any specifics on the hardware in that particular system?

It's pretty old. I'rs a Dell studio hybrid. I'm thinking the physics might bring the weak cpu to it's knees even if everything else runs okay.

I managed to run the game on a 10 year old Laptop with 1Gb RAM, and around 1Ghz Single Core Processor.
I where able to play all of the included games, and simpler Workshop Mods (ones with 1 Board and 2-3 Card Decks), and play Multiplayer.
So I would say, it should run on pretty much every PC from the past 10 years.
There used to be a early free version, but I cant find it right now.
If you manage to find it, and it runs, your friend should be able to play the current version too.

Earlier versions would have a hard time on older systems, though nowhere near unplayable.

The more recent optimized versions however work fine on pretty much any machine. The new config settings that let you enable full size textures but use low shadow quality and no antialiasing further help it perform a hell of a lot better than the older versions.

There's a website called canirunit.com which is designed to compare the minimum and recommended system specs for specified games to the specs on your computer. Now, minimum and recommended specs comparisons aren't the most accurate things out there, but it should give you a decent idea of how well the computer in question plays the game.
