Rotate on X axis.
I can spin an object all the way around with MMB
I can flip/tilt an object forward or backward with Alt+MMB
I can NOT flip/tilt an object side-to-side.

Even if I somehow get it to fall onto it's side, the moment I pick it up it flips back onto it's Z or Y axis.

If I'm missing something please tell me! I have some objects that I need to flip onto their side and I seemingly do not have the ability to do that.

I've had this problem too - I wanted to make a wooden block that would revolve around its four edges whilst still facing the player (like one of Columbia Games block wargames). The only way I part solved it was to create new blocks in a 3d program with the correct axis of revolution. Even so, as you say - when you pick the blocks up they will self-right themselves to their originally created "upright" axis regardless of how you have revolved it.

I posted a suggestion on the Berserk Games development forum for a new type of game piece/object that does not re-orientate itself when it is picked up or moved (or perhaps you could have an option to turn this behaviour off) but I don't think it recieved much interest.

Hopefully one day it will be implemented (unless I've missed something to!).

I sure hope they implement that, it would be really useful!
Rotating any direction kinda seems like a no-brainer to me, I'm really surprised it isn't possible.
