Good game for 2 players that's easy to understand?
Ideally something that doesn't have a massive amount of pieces.

More info like what other games you like to just the type of genre u like would be helpful for recommending games.

Carcassonne the base game is very simple very popular game thats best with 2 but can go up to 5.
Summoner wars is a great fantasy war game thats played with cards on a board and is so simple it has a rule book that if i remember correctly is about 12 small pages and can be learned in about 10 minutes.

Run, Fight or Die! - Very simple, u can teach/ learn in 5 min, doesn't take long
The Bloody In - Card game, there is a bit more teaching involved, but still simple
Warhammer Quest The Adventure Card Game - nice one for 2 players, a bit complex with rules, but when u get hang of it it goes smooth

Ok, a bit more simple. We're going on 10 minutes trying to get Carcassone understood. We tried Run Fight or Die, however the manual was locked off by a required registration

I have not played this. It looks interesting and fairly simple to learn.

You could have go to Youtube, search 'Run, Figh or Die! playtrough' and learn it lol
You could have use Tablet,. Just spawn it from your Chest > Tool and use it.
