Is there a way to 3D print models from a game?
So there is an obscure game that I played as a kid that I sadly lost over the years but found again on TTS.

I was hoping to play it again with old childhood friends but the game literally only existed from a magazine. (made purely as a laugh)

So I can't buy a real copy of it anymore. BUT TTS has it. SO my question is then is there any way to get the 3D models used in the game into a 3D printer? The game board and cards I can manage but the models used to be simple paper ones you had to cut out of the magazine so they never existed to begin with but someone took the time to make them for the game on TTS.

Just looking to see if someone knows if it can be done. Thx

Getting them should be pretty easy, unless they are asset bundles, which means it will be less easy but still possible to get them. Right click the model and choose custom, then it will show you a link (or several) which you must copy and paste into a browser to then get to download the file.

But it depends a lot on how these models are made to determine whether they are 3D printable or not. If it is a sculpt it might be printable right away, but a more complex model can require some work to get into a state where it is printable. And then there are potential legal / moral issues if you were to send these files to a printer company, so they then make money off of something that is neither their nor your (intellectual) property. If you own a printer yourself this is of course no concern.

To be able to tell you exact things I would have to see the models in question.

Well not even sure if there is any intellectual property issues given the nature of the game in question.

The game is called Space Station Zemo. It was literally just a random insert in an old InQuest Magazine in 1998. NO idea who would even own the rights to it. As far as moral I would gladly pay a reasonable fee for things like this but they are so obscure no one even remembers them half the time so buying them legally is a nightmare. (I buy things when I can but when there is no other option I don't really feel to bad figuring it out myself)

But yeah I own the printer.

Thank you for the info.

I meant the person who modelled them, since they weren't original parts of the game as you said. But since you own the printer yourself, that is not really an issue as I mentioned.

So as you have a printer, do you know what to look out for in the models then or do you need pointers? I have a (filament) printer too, and some experience under my belt already.

There are certain services to download mods without the game out there - but for TTS this would be e very tedious process, because the models are not stored in plain form. They are links to online servers in a text file, often without clear reference as to what is what. You would have to manually sift through it all to find what you want. And then there is no guarantee that the model is printable from the get go, it might require additional work.

I'm trying to do this for models in the War of the Ring Ultimate Rework mod. Would you mind letting me know what you think?

From what I can see from the screenshots, the mod seems to be using a mix of models that came from games, as well as 3D scans. The latter would probably be printable right away but look rather ugly, the former would require lots of work to get to a printable state.
