Find an and download an appropriate appropriate mod, find other opponents to play online, and have them connect to a game with you while the Warhammer mod is loaded.
You can also check out r/TTSWarhammer40k on Reddit.
The basic mods you need: Battleforged Mod Pack (GitHub download only), Yellowscribe V2 (Steam Workshop), FTC map base 10th edition (Steam Workshop), any 40k maps you want (examples include Bobo the Talking Clown's or Trevvy's maps) (Steam Workshop), and—just in case—Cleaner Block (Steam Workshop).
1. Make a list using New Recruit. It's not the only method, but it's the easiest because of a future step.
2. Open the Battleforged Mod pack in-game. Find the models you want and save them as a seperate object.
3. In New Recruit, press Export -> Yellowscribe. Copy the code that pops up.
4. Open the Yellowscribe mod in-game. Paste the code in when it pops up.
5. Load your saved object.
6. Associate the models by selecting a model, then selecting the associated profile.
7. Press Create Army. Now, your models have all their profile info in the tooltip when you hover over them. You can also do some fancy things like increment each model's HP using your number pad.
8. Save your finished Army as a Saved Object and load up FTC map base.
9. Select the map size and press confirm.
10. Find the map you want to play on in your mods. Right-click it and press Additive Load. It'll replace the blank map in the center of the FTC map base.
11. Choose your mission and deploy your armies.
12. Have fun!
