For right now though a great way to see the objects and graphics that go into a game, check out the ~/Documents/My Games/Tabletop Simulator/Mods directory. There should be one called Models which holds all the obj files the games you played/subscribe to have downloaded.
The other directory is URL Images and this is the directory all the boards and deck grfx are downloaded.
The URL where each file was gotten is the name of the file, which is handy in its own sort of way.
You can then use these files to add to your mod.
For instance if you play any of the Cheapass Games with money included you will see these files in your URL Images directory ...
httptomwsmfcomttsmodscaCheapassMoneyBackjpg.jpg
httptomwsmfcomttsmodscaCheapassMoneyFrontjpg.jpg
These are the money decks Back and then the second file os the Fronts.
If you wanted to add them to any of your games simply chose the menu options...
Hosts/Chests/Cards/Custom
When the dialog box pops up asking you for the deck info tell it the card backs are at
http://tomwsmf.com/ttsmods/CheapassMoneyBack.jpg
and the card fronts are at
http://tomwsmf.com/ttsmods/CheapassMoneyFront.jpg
and then tell it there are 69 cards. There are not 69 cards in it but the extras will just be blanks you can get rid of. When the deck pops in you can resize it, sort it, delete the ones you dont want and make copies of the ones you want more of.
So, if I understand right it's not very easy to do this right now. Theres really no way to do it with realtime previews, and my best bet is to have the directory open in the bg for quick copy/paste?
For that matter, can you even spawn objects from the currently loaded game? Physically finding them and cloning aside I mean.
This seems like a pretty necessary feature if this is being used for rpgs, it would be nice to pick from big sets of custom miniatures and whatnot without having to painstakingly manually load every one on demand.
Although I suppose I played rpgs fine in the old days with only a few dozen minatures/counters.
The other "easy" way to clone objects now is opening the game that has the goodies you want, selecting them, cutting them, going back to your saved game and pasting it in there.
I have done this a few times, such as when adding the amazing colored wooden beads into some of the games I moded up. For each color bead another cycle of saving my game, opening the wooden bead mod, selecting, copying, closing, opening my game mod and pasting.
It would greatly help if we could copy more than one object at a time.
And yes, once you get used to having lots of options you want lots of options to be the base line. I very much fear when I start using this to mod up minatures based wargames. I think I will spend as much time futzing over models and textures as i would painting the damn things IRL:)- It will be a hell of a lot less expensive though.
