How do you play deck building games? (noob question)
OMG, I am so frustrated because I can't figure out how to play a simple deck-building game in Tabletop Simulator. By this I mean games like Dominion, Thunderstone, Ascension, etc etc.

I loaded Dominion for example and I can't even populate the build piles. I loaded Barbarossa and it has the build piles already set up but I can't figure out how to make *my* deck. I get the controls tutorial for playing games like poker where everyone draws from the same deck but I can't figure out how to use the interface with deck-building games where each player makes their own deck.

I'm kind of time constrained here and am asking in desperation if someone can point me to a tutorial, video, or instructions about how to do this.

EVERY freaking google result and forum search turns up people trying to make their own games with custom assets. That's not what I want! I just wanna know how to play the deck-building games I already have!

Thanks if you can help me out!

Just to re-iterate what YourPeepingTom said in a different format:

1) mouse-over a deck of cards (it will be slightly highlighted in white)
2) type the number of cards you want using the number keys above QWERTY on your keyboard
e.g. "2" for 2 cards or "3" then "4" in quick succession for 34 cards.
3) wait for a second (the game is checking to see if you type more numbers)
4) that number of cards get taken from the deck and put in to your hand.

note that if there are less cards than you press, you will draw the whole amount and the game will _not_ warn you that you have under-drawn.

Hello and welcome. If I understand your problem correctly, you want to take cards from Dominion or other games' decks and assemble your own stack of cards which you can then save for use in other games or mods?

No, I think he wants to learn how to create the different piles/decks WITHIN the game. Are there any tutorials on how to use TTS that are good for new users?

No. I literally just want to know how to use the controls better. I got some progress with practice but I have to draw cards and stuff using the context menu... kinda clunky.

draw card with the context menu? like right clicking dealing? you can just hover over a stack of cards and press the amount you need if that's whatchu mean

No, I don't want to deal cards. That's another huge issue I have with this program. When I use the context menu it's too easy to accidentally "deal" the cards from my deck to everyone else in the game which creates a HUGE mess.

So no. I'm not talking about dealing cards to other players.

I'm talking about picking up cards from *my* deck and then putting them in my hand. So far I can only see how to do this by using the context menu and I don't see a keyboard short-cut for it like there is for shuffling. If you're familiar with how deck-building games work you'll know what I mean.

In a deck-building game each player has their own deck of cards that they draw from and discard to. They build this deck from a pool of cards on the game board.

There are so many deck-building games in Tabletop Simulator that surely people are playing them. I'd like to know how without derailing other people's posts with dumb questions like my OP which is basically "How do you play this game with Tabletop Sim?!". Right now it feels very clunky and I think I'm doing it sub-optimally.

YourPeepingTom gave you the solution. By hovering the mouse over a deck of cards and typing the number of cards you want, it will then draw those cards into your hand.

No one is being condescending or prickly. They saw that I misunderstood your correct answer and so they elaborated in great detail to help me out. I appreciate it.

Thank you everyone who replied. I tried it out and it works exactly the way I want. This is so much better than how I was doing it before!

I wasn't talkin about anyone else here but you , the whole paragraph was condescending. ye maybe explaining how you want to draw cards but not deal them was helpful, but reiterating that whole "So no. I'm not talking about dealing cards to other players." that was prickly. That comment about "If you're familiar with how deck-building games work you'll know what I mean." and then going on to explain how those games work to a tabletop gaming community, came across as condescending whether you intended it to or not. All because you misunderstood my answer, I admit I prolly should have added the qualifier "Your hand" so I apologize for that but on top of all that a report wow
