is this game a joke?
i can start a game (also with things from workshop) but it keeps locked on an editor-mode....i cannot play.
is it really meant that you can only move objects from A to B and thats all and you have to play with people who do it correctly because there are no rules at all that the game considers?
do i have to count all points by myself because the game has no information how to do it?

i loaded a mod that says "scripted" in the name in hope that the game knows the rules by itself - but still nothing to do. you can only take cards and put it anywhere on the table senselessly....

when playing e.g. chess you can move your figures anywhere you want and the other player can do nothing against it.

for me it seems not a boardgame-simulator it is only an object-move-simulator.

It’s a tabletop simulator. You need to know all of the rules and do all of the work like you would have to do at an actual table top. There is a bit of a learning curve to move things, but it’s essentially a sandbox.

if it's my catan game, you need to download and extract data(images/models) package too.

do people use the comments at workshop page at all?

also where has creativity gone from gamers?

+1 to novemberadam.

This is a tabletop simulator (not a boardgame simulator) in the literal sense - it simulates the top of a table (and somethings some things surrounding that) on which you and your friends can play board games of all kinds.

Scripted mods have varying degrees of automation on them, but there are no games with a functional, reliable AI. There are a few mods out there that have an AI, such as UNO, but it is more of a proof of concept and can break often.

Just like in reality, the thing to do against that is to not play with people who do that.

For real though, many popular games (Tabletop Wargames, DnD, MtG, etc.) and game genres (e.g. euro games) have their dedicated communities to them where you can find people to play with who take their playing (somewhat) seriously.

it is not a lack of creativity when you want to play a boardgame and have to count your points yourself.
e.g. i bought the game because we did not find a website or something else to play el grande i good quality.
every third round you get plenty of points and a tabletop-simulator should at least be able to count that points automatically. ..... otherwise it's a senseless tool.

Scripting could do what you say, you just have to learn it yourself or find someone to do it for you.

i was talking about my game, where u can design map your self to play, or design the random map, (or even use standard map, tho only randomize versions available at moment)

It's exactly the same as playing a tabletop game. It simulates the tabletop experience. If, in that game, you count your points yourself (I don't know the game you're talking about, but monopoly money could be a good example), you will have to keep track of those points yourself just like the table top version, unless you can script what you want.

Yeah, the game isn't automated. I get how that can turn some people off, but it also makes adding new games a lot easier, which makes the simulator more varied. Tabletop simulator is a good tool for trying games you are unsure about buying, or games that aren't available anymore, and it has a mod for almost every known game. It is enjoyable, in my opinion.

Maybe it would help to not think of it as a game, but rather a piece of software to play virtual board games? Just like a paint program lets you create art, it doesn’t automate the process.
This is simply a physics simulator dedicated to tabletop objects. In real life, you need to learn the rules of the game before you can play. This simulator is just like that.

If you wanted a simulator that has pre-built in rules, then you're asking for additional work being done to program in rules.

There are computer versions of tabletop games that have set rules, track points and not allow for randomly moving objects around. You buy one game, you play one game, with (hopefully) a good UI designed to play that one game in the best way possible.

TTS is a sandbox, you trade automatization for flexibility. You buy TTS and you can play any number of games, even create your own, because there are no set rules.

I think the OP means that he nhas designed his own game, but cannot get out of editor mode so that he can save the game so that he can in the future play it.
AlBundyFan Dec 27, 2021 @ 4:39pm
tabletop-simulator cuts off all advantages you have with playing a game on computer......and takes all disavanteges you have over a reallife tabletop-game.

if you have cards and want to give each player five of them you have to take every card with the mousecurser and put it on the place before the player...it takes 20 times as much it would be in real life to give each player five cards. (and that's only one example)
