On my windows 8 laptop, that I haven't updated for since September. I put steam in offline mode so it would not update TTS or Steam.
I plugged in my steam controller and everything in TTS worked as expected. My paddles could be bound to joy axis's and all was fine.
I then connected to my internet and allowed steam to update. There were no updates to TTS. After restarting steam and loading TTS, it no longer works.
Something in the latest Steam client seems to have broken the support for TTS and the steam controller.
Is there anyway to revert steam to a older version ?
Also tried to run steam as admin, nothing fixes this.
Personally i never liked the cheap plastic feel to the steam controller, but i found the touchpad and different button layout intriguing, but with the mini USB port and such the design certainly feels very dated nowadays.
Not all features are unlocked yet. But thanks to the new beta you can at least use it as a normal xox controller.
I got also a steam controller, but i aint using it anymore. I feel especially the rumble pack is too weak for me now :c
Some might say 65 bucks is hefty price for a new controller, but the built in headset jack & crazy rumble pack were alone worth it to me. Gunfire feels much more satisfying now
I also like that the dualsense feels nice & more heavy in the hands too. The steam controller always felt that the plastic would break any moment you make erratc movements with analog sticks xD
The rumble on dualsense is really crazy, but obviously the haptic feedback isn't working yet. But i hope valve is working on implementing 100% of all features though.
In 2020 came cool new gamepad alternatives.
good luck on fixing !
PS: I also believe that your steam client might gotten buggy, did you try third party gamepad config softwares instead?
I am not on the beta for steam now since it didn't solve the issue so I reverted.
So far I have a post here, and under the bugs section, and have contacted steam support. They told me to come here and try and get the devs to look into it as there is nothing wrong with the steam controller in other games. (tests fine in solus).
I have worked around it but its no longer seen by TTS as a analogue joystick and only a keyboard and mouse device. I can bind keyboard keys to the joystick function to work around it but its not as good as it use to be.
For me I only use the steam controller for TTS. I never use it for anything else. It was the perfect controller for me, until now. I've tried TTS with Xbox and PS4 controllers but the steam controller with its touch pad for mouse was a game changer for me.
I hope this gets some kind of traction and is looked into at least. It was working fine around sept.
