Help needed- models refusing to load
Hello everyone, I'm coming here because I got no reply on the subreddit. I've been having this issue for about 7 months now, and having tried everything I can think of to fix it and scouring the internet, I've come here. Before this issue stopped me, I and my friends were about 5 sessions into a new DnD 5e campaign that I was DMing for. I was using TTS for my map creation, which was essential for my campaign. However, I was forced to stop as the maps that I had created after the fifth session inexplicably stopped working. I tried everything I could think of, from verifying the game files on Steam, to uninstalling and reinstalling and even trying to mess around with the files (most notably nuking the contents of the images and models folders). I did some other things, but since it was so long ago I quite frankly forget what else I did to try and get it to work. The maps I made before the fifth session still worked for the most part however, and my friends have never had this problem when they've DM'd.

In the end I had to cancel the entire campaign, which really burned me and many others in my friend group, and I've honestly been very frustrated/angry at TTS since. Well earlier this week, I tried to get back into TTS and make a new map. But as I was halfway into making the map, I've run into the same problem I did 7 months ago, which is all sorts of frustrating.

I've provided some links to screenshots of what I'm seeing below. I'm just desperate for some sort of answer on how to fix this, I really want to DM a game but as It stands I'm unable to. Any and all feedback/suggestions are welcome, and thanks for reading this.

Try:
1. disabling mod caching and reloading the mod.
2. Disable or delete all fog of war on the table.
3. Deleting SaveFileInfos.json from the saves folder and restarting steam/TTS.

Do the maps not load for you only or also for others?

Thank you for the suggestions, but none of them worked for me.

I can make a map, but after I reload it after a couple times, almost all of the models will stop working suddenly. After the models break for me, the models will not load properly for anyone

can you try loading up TTS with -nosteam in the launch options?
are you able to generate a log file with the -log option too?

I was not able to do anything with -nosteam but I was able to get the log I believe. For the log, is it the file called output_log.txt? Because I'm seeing a lot of errors in it.

While messing around with the files, I somehow managed to get all of my maps and models perm deleted without even fixing my problem. Thanks, Tabletop Simulator.

I really hope you took my advice and manually backed up everything before doing anything... It's painful to lose this stuff. It's not TTS's fault, it's a combination of faults, but mostly, I think, Steam cloud's. The file will be called Player.log. It is probably generated as Player.log, which might be somewhere else on Windows or called something else, but it SHOULD be in your unity directory tree for some reason... /unity3d/Editor/ -- I do not know where Windows installs unity, nor if Windows is still incapable of performing a simple search for a filename within any kind of reasonable time limit.

Hoping you backed up, if so... I would reinstall steam after cleansing every mention of it and TTS off your HD. Then copy the assets into the TTS directories where they belong. Delete the SavedGames.json and disable Cloud Synch everywhere before checking to see if stuff will load. If you lost everything because you didn't back up, pray one of your friends has caching enabled, and grab what assets you can from their /Saves /Workshop directories. I have had to manually pick out images and jsons this way before, it sucks, but it's better than total loss.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I misinterpreted what you said and forgot about common sense, and did not manually back up the saves. Almost 200+ hours of work has been lost now and I can't seem to find anyway to recover the files. Thank you for all your help, when no one else would help me with this. I really appreciate it, even if it ended with disaster. I will try and follow what you said here and report back on what happens.

I know I saw the whole player.log somewhere, but I can't seem to find it now. It most likely got deleted with all of my maps and everything... The worst part is that my problem most likely has not been fixed. I've never had this sort of problem in any other game but TTS, and it is frankly infuriating.

I feel your pain, seriously, but then again, there is no other game like TTS, and getting it going is well worth it if you like boardgames and RPGs.

I'm well aware, TTS is a great game and system. It's just imo held back by it's general bugginess and issues that I haven't experinced in litterally any other game. I want to love TTS but I'm being held back by the fact It is currently unplayable for me.

Player.log will not be generated in /Workshop or /Saves or /Mods etc. , probably Unity directory tree as I mentioned, and you can always generate another log. Good luck with getting your game assets back.
Sorry the game isn't working for you.

Sorry it took a second to get back to you. I've located the player.log file. What should I do next?
