How to make a local copy of a Steam Workshop Game?
Hello,
I found several reasons I would like to make a copy of some of my favourite games for. One of them is the fact that authors sometimes remove the product or its parts, other reason is that I need to make some design/functionality changes and want to have it as a separate game.

So my question is — is there a possibility to put a copy of a steam workshop game on my local drive and load it to Tabletop Simulator from here? If yes, how exactly do this?

Thanks!

mostly it's easy. you just save game, and thats it. but more throughly work, you should download each linked file, and make local or own upload of them. and edit links to your version of files. replace function of text editors work nicely.

sometimes there are hidden scripts, they are in asset packs. then you need to find out how to extract and edit them to work in local version.

Thanks for answer. Meanwhile I maybe found another (better) way how to make an existng workshop „mine“ under my own name with files saved in my Steam Cloud so it is independent from the original. I tried to:

1. Open original workshop in Tabletop Simulator.
2. Go to Modding-CloudManager-Upload All Loaded Files.
3. Go to Modding-Workshop Upload.

In fact I do not need to have the workshop locally. I only need to have my own copy of the original that is independent so I lose no file/data when author decides to remove the original from the Steam.

Now I THINK that I made a whole independent and working copy of the original workshop.

Am I right?

i don't know if it replaces the links from file to your versions, but if it does then yes.

edit: seems like you were right.

but this does not work with assets, if there are hidden scipts that won't work after different link.

edit2: you can leave step 3 out, and leave save as just as is after step 2.

edit3:
1. Open original workshop in Tabletop Simulator.
2. Go to Modding-CloudManager-Upload All Loaded Files.
3. Save

From what I have seen, if things are already on a cloud (not necessarily yours) and you try to
cloud-upload the mod, it will say that nothing needs to be uploaded to the cloud. If you want a truly local copy of a mod, you need the TTS mod backup tool.

this would mean change is required at tabletop code, to detect usernumber from that link
